At our last Rotary club meeting Glenis Heath, wife of Past President Don Heath, gave us a very informative presentation on the topic of Food. Glenis has an enormous amount of knowledge on this topic through her many years of teaching and the numerous textbooks she has co-authored. We were all intensely interested in what she had to say and there were many questions. At the same time we welcomed our Japanese Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholar, Masaya Endo, to our meeting. We look forward to Masaya speaking at our club on the 30th of September. At the same time we welcomed our Japanese Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholar, Masaya Endo, to our meeting. The newly installed Club Board held its first formal meeting for the Rotary year on July 24th at the Auburn Hotel. The agenda focused on key administrative matters to ensure the
smooth running of the club, confirmation of Avenue of Service budgets for the year ahead, and exploring opportunities to reduce some finance costs associated with funds collection at the Boroondara Farmers Market.
Progress on current service projects was reviewed, including the installation of a solar-powered water pump and tank at Aladura Primary School in Sierra Leone. The Board also discussed future priorities for Youth Service, noting the strong support given to independent schools in recent years. Moving forward, the focus will shift towards strengthening support for government schools in Boroondara.
Get ready for a tail-wagging good time – because the next Boroondara Farmers Market on August 16th is Doggy Day!

As we close in on our 50th birthday celebrations, this week's blast from the past pays homage to those who have taken leadership responsibility for the club over the past fifty years, and those who have been recognised for their enthusiastic commitment to the ideals of Rotary, and their outstanding contribution to the community.
An evangelical minister and a politician arrive at Heaven's Gate one day together, and St Peter, after doing all the necessary formalities, took them in hand to show them where their accommodation would be. He took them first to a small single room, that had a bed, a chair, and a table, and said this was for the clergyman. The politian was a little worried. He wondered about what might be in store for him. He couldn't believe it, then, when St Peter stopped in front of a beautiful mansion, with lovely grounds, many servants and told him that this would be his accommodation. The politician couldn't help but ask. He said: ‘But wait a minute, how - there’s something wrong here - how do I come to get this superb mansion while that good and holy man only gets a single room? St Peter looked at the polly and said “Listen, you have to understand how things are up here. We've got thousands and thousands of clergy. You're the first politician who ever made it”.
