At our last Rotary club meeting Glenis Heath, wife of Past President Don Heath, gave us a very informative presentation on the topic of Food. Glenis has an enormous amount of knowledge on this topic through her many years of teaching and the numerous textbooks she has co-authored. We were all intensely interested in what she had to say and there were many questions. At the same time we welcomed our Japanese Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholar, Masaya Endo, to our meeting. A small Committee, led by Joanne Shentu and including Richard Blakeman, Chris Raw and myself, is working closely with Loreto Mandeville Hall to establish a Rotary Peace Pole at the school. The Peace Pole is provided by Rotary and the school has suggested the 6 languages to be represented on the Pole, including an indigenous language. The Pole will read “May peace prevail on earth.” Ten students from different grades at the school will be involved in the ceremony and it will be an important event for our Rotary club and Mandeville Hall. The date for the occasion is yet to be confirmed but it is likely to be in October.
Wednesday the 22nd of October is a very important date in our Rotary club’s calendar. On that night, we will be celebrating the Rotary Club of Glenferrie’s 50th Anniversary. There will be no meeting on the Tuesday the 21st, so please keep the 22nd of October free for the big celebration.
President's Lunch August 20th 12:30pm
The next lunch is Wednesday the 20th of August at 12.30 at The Glenferrie Hotel in Burwood Road Hawthorn. Members, partners and friends are all welcome. These lunches have been a popular way to enjoy the company of club members and friends during the third week of the month, when we no longer have formal club meetings so please do come along and join in the fun.
