How a hole in Mum’s kitchen table led to a fifty year career in media
Aug 11, 2020 7:15 PM
Respected throughout the Media industry, John has been a popular and in-demand fixture of
the Melbourne TV, Radio, Advertising and Corporate worlds for almost 40 years. Perhaps
best known as the Voice of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and the man that told excited contestants on
the ‘New Price Is Right’ to ‘Come on Down”, John, or ‘Deeksie’ as he is widely known, was
also the face of Tattslotto and Powerball draws and the Host and Compere of ‘Family Feud’.
In recent years Myer has also selected a very proud John to narrate the iconic ‘Christmas
Window’ display at their Bourke St. store.

To Raise Funds for End Trachoma 2020 EndTrachoma2020 has been very fortunate to be given screening rights of this film and due to Covid, it has been showing on zoom - "from the comfort of your loungeroom". So far they have had over 200 people join online, with viewers in every state of Australia and one lady from Russia!
HOMELAND STORY is a remarkable MUST SEE story of cross-cultural cooperation in the development of Donydji, an Indigenous Homeland in Arnhem Land.
Watch the Trailer: youtu.be/NxaFUOS0xhI Bookings at: https://www.trybooking.com/BJRSD
In 1974, Neville White, a young student from Victoria arrived in a remote Indigenous Homeland in the far north of Australia, to research a PhD in genetic anthropology. There he met the people who changed his life, as he changed theirs. In effect, he has never left. Forty years of photographs, film and video taken by Neville provide a powerful, intimate portrait of his friendship with a tribal Indigenous family; a friendship that continues to the present day. It tracks the family's transition from the Stone Age to the Digital Age in just two generations. From Dhulatarama, the clan leader who still knew how to make stone tools, to his grand-daughter Joanne Yindiri, who is training to become a primary school teacher. Today, Doyndji is blessed in many ways. It is peaceful, drug and alcohol free, but no Homeland is an island. Through the prism of one community the vexatious questions of mining interests, corrosive government policy and the precarious future of Indigenous Homelands are ...
The Rotary Club of Melbourne not only featured in the film along with the Vietnam Vets who worked with the young men of Donydji, it is thanks to their financial support that this film exists. The film charts the Donydji community's transition from nomadic life to the digital age, from the 1960s to the present day, and the work of genetic anthropologist and Vietnam Veteran, Dr Neville White. |

When Australian Rotarian Sir Clem Renouf launched the global project to end polio in 1979, more than 350,000 children died each year from this terrible disease. One can well imagine the desperately sad and devasting sense of loss felt by families, and the deep sadness when a life full of promise is taken prematurely. Many who did not die suffered dreadful paralysis. Today, polio is eradicated from all but two countries, an oustanding story that is yet unfinished.
