Meeting Duties

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a terrifying or life-threatening event or events. Symptoms include intrusive thoughts, avoidance of contact with people, places and situations that serve as reminders of the traumatic event, feeling constantly on guard, experiencing angry outbursts, trouble sleeping, with persistent feelings of fear, guilt, or emotional numbness. It is a common condition for members of the armed forces who have served in a war zone, a condition which in the past was not taken seriously with often devastating consequences for sufferers and their families.
Pamela Young is a member of the East Malvern RSL. Her life has been shaped by many rich experiences, much happiness, and the sadness that naturally comes with life. Pam met her future husband, who was in the Australian Army, when she was 28 and became stepmother to his two children. They were married for 15 years and shared many happy times. Pam never imagined she would go through separation and divorce, which she now understands was influenced by her husband’s post-traumatic stress. Come along and hear Pam's story. Bring a partner or friend. Her story will move you.
