President's Message
We are in May already, less than three weeks away from the Rotary International Convention 2023 (RICON23). Did you know that non-registrants to the RICON23 convention can enjoy a FREE 3-day pass to the Rotary House of Friendship? The House of Friendship is the ultimate destination for RICON23 attendees to gather, network, and learn about Rotary products, programs, or services. Nearly 95% of RI Convention attendees will make their way through the aisles of this exhilarating venue, connecting with leaders, activists, and People of Action.
Glenferrie Rotarians Demonstrate Culinary Expertise
Some months ago, the Community Service Group was invited to present a series of cooking classes for clients of the Salvation Army. Helena Wimpole and Geoff Widmer kindly stepped up to the plate and after careful consideration of recipes they conducted their first class on 19th April. It was a resounding success, and the relatively simple meal of rice, chicken and vegetables was met with universal acclaim.

FORaMEAL Packing Day - Federation Square - Saturday 27th May
District Governor Amanda Wendt would like Rotarians to take part in this wonderful project in helping humanity at the Rotary International Convention in May. This project is open to all Rotarians not strictly to Rotarians who are going to the Convention.
District Governor Amanda wants to secure over 50 Supervisors who will assist in the set-up of the equipment, the supervising of the packing and the clean-up at the end of the event. It is being held on Saturday the 27th May from 10.00am – 4.00pm at Fed Square, although the set-up team will arrive much earlier.

Peter Doherty Institute seeking Healthy adults 65 years and older

The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity is conducting a study of an experimental influenza (flu) vaccine using new mRNA technology and is seeking healthy adults 65 years and older.

The safety and ability of the new vaccine to promote a protective immune response is being compared to existing licensed flu vaccines.
We are looking for participants who are:
- Aged 65 years and older
- In good health
The study includes receiving one vaccine, as well as having blood samples taken and follow-up for approximately 12 months.

Rotary Foundation Grants

If your club is considering applying for a Rotary Foundation District Grant, now is the time to apply.

The District Grants committee has ample funds still available for this Rotary year.  It is possible to arrange District Grants through the District 9800 Humanitarian Grants Committee at relatively short notice. The Grants Committee has been able to approve grants and has done so quite quickly where grant applications comply with the terms and conditions of the Rotary Foundation.
