President's Message
Cleanup Australia
It was great to see so many members enthusiastically cleaning up Pattersons Reserve and surrounding areas. We had quite a turn out. Thanks to those who organized the day and the eats and drinks including Thelma, Geoff and Paul. It was also great to see our local member John Pesutto enthusiastically getting stuck in before heading off to the festival.

Sign up to Help Out with POWER ASSIST Basketball
The Community Service and Youth Groups have again agreed to help support this program which provides a sporting outlet for individuals with a range of disabilities. It is not wheelchair basketball and our role is merely to collect player and spectator payments which cover the cost of basketballs and administration. All the staff, including umpires are voluntary and the competition has been going for more than twenty years. It arose out of an initiative of the Power House organization.

Our commitment is to provide two volunteers at the Methodist Ladies' College(MLC) Basketball courts in Kew on a Friday night, once a month, from 6.30PM for 2 hours. So, if you have a free Friday night please consider helping out. Whilst it may seem a trivial activity we do perform an important role and it provides the opportunity to "chew the fat" with a fellow Rotarian in between acting as a cashier.
(Volunteers enter MLC via the pedestrian gate in Fitzwilliam Street near its intersection with Selbourne Road.)
2 March 2025 - Clean Up Australia Day Report
It was heartening to have twenty-six volunteers contributing to our Clean Up at Patterson Reserve and surrounding streets on Sunday morning. Our volunteer group consisted of twenty-one Rotarians, the Hon John Pesutto, and a family of four from the community.

It is hard to believe that what was started thirty-five years ago, by Ian Kiernan AO, described as an "average Australian" who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard has now become the nation's largest community-based annual environmental event.
The happy throng of Glenferrie Rotarians at Patterson Reserve Hawthorn March 2nd were joined by Hon. John Pesutto MP, Member for Hawthorn (in the light blue cap) for Clean Up Australia Day

That could've been me!
A man visited his doctor, and the doctor checked him over before commenting, "It looks like you get a fair bit of exercise".

The man replied, "Oh yeah, in fact just the other day I walked five kilometers over rugged terrain as I climbed over rocks and trees. I also waded along the edges of a lake, pushing my way through tall thistles, and even slid down sandy slopes while getting sand in my eyes".

The doctor was quite impressed. "Well, you certainly are a dedicated outdoor enthusiast".

"Oh, not really", the man replied. "I play golf".
