It was heartening to have twenty-six volunteers contributing to our Clean Up at Patterson Reserve and surrounding streets on Sunday morning. Our volunteer group consisted of twenty-one Rotarians, the Hon John Pesutto, and a family of four from the community.

It is hard to believe that what was started thirty-five years ago, by Ian Kiernan AO, described as an "average Australian" who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard has now become the nation's largest community-based annual environmental event.
The happy throng of Glenferrie Rotarians at Patterson Reserve Hawthorn March 2nd were joined by Hon. John Pesutto MP, Member for Hawthorn (in the light blue cap) for Clean Up Australia Day

This year with a team of twenty-six we were able to cover the ground effectively, picking up waste, litter and a range of unusual items including a large piece of carpet, flag banner, and six cylinders of nitrogen oxide.

Special thanks to Geoff Widmer, Ian Salek and Paul Shekleton for the BBQ lunch which was enjoyed by the attendees. And thank-you to all the volunteers on the day:  To our Club Members:   Amelia Anderson, Carol Benson, Wendy Cross, Mark Ellis, David Fallick, Amelia Hamer, Michael Hills, Andrea Kimler, Teresa Liu, Peter Moore, Anita Morkans, Cheryl Pisterman, Ian Salek, Paul Shekleton, Gary Stoneham, Geoff and Kay Widmer, Rob Winspear and Wayne Worladge.    To David Pisterman from RC Hawthorn, the Hon John Pessuto, and a family of four from the community for helping us care for our environment
