A tip for every Rotarian - “Always keep your eyes open. Keep watching. Because whatever you can see can inspire you.” Grace Coddington – ex editor of American Vogue magazine.
So being present at the last Tuesday meeting should not have disappointed those doubled vaxed Rotarians, who turned up to our general meeting featuring the Rotary Foundation with an inspiring speech by PDG Murray Verso, Chairperson of the Rotary Foundation. It was a great opportunity to induct Charles Tran, Robert Hogan and Elizbeth Dumonic into the Paul Harris Society. These people have pledged donations for many years. As both Charles and Rob stated, they know, appreciate and trust where their donations are going to. The Rotary Foundation being largely volunteer have very low administration costs as pointed out by Murray Verso.
Added to this special night were the inductions of new members Paul Shekleton and Oxana Belyaeva into our family. We are thrilled to have 3 new members recently join our club (if you consider Amelia Anderson joining us during lockdown). I am sure you will all warmly welcome them into our family.
The new playground at Yarra Bank Reserve in Hawthorn was officially opened at a special Family Fun Day on Sunday November 21st, accompanied by glorious sunshine, magic, music and mayhem, and the delightful laughter of children and families at play. A crowd of some hundreds of Rotarians and residents gathered to celebrate the theme of working and playing together in what was a resounding success for the club and our consortium partners. Well done Rotary! Thank you Rotarians! More to come.
The crowd gravitated towards the famous Bees Waggle Dance at the Yarra Bank Reserve Playground on Sunday, led by the Champion Wagglers at the Rotary Club of Canterbury. And what fun it was!
To borrow from Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons Oh What a Night, Mid-November in '21, last Tuesday evening, President Mark inducted two new members, Oxana (Anne) Belyaeva and Paul Shekleton. As part of a very busy meeting our Guest Speaker, PDG Murray Verso, District 9800 Rotary Foundation Chair, as part of his presentation, welcomed Charles Tran and Robert Hogan to the Paul Harris Society (PHS); one of the many ways that one can financially support The Rotary Foundation and its many projects Doing Good in the World.
Welcome to Rotary! The club welcomed new members Oxana Belyaeva, Dr Paul Shekleton and Amelia Anderson at the club meeting on November 16th, pictured here with Membership Development Director Elizabeth Dumonic (far left) and President Dr. Mark Ellis AM.
On 17th October I participated in the D9800 Orientation program for the 60 Year 11 students who were selected to participate in this program in January next year. Due to Covid 19 students will not go to Canberra next year, but will have a combination of top scientists addressing them online. As well as a number of visits to top science precincts such as the Cyclotron and the laboratories at the Burnett Institute and Peter McCallum. The NYSF program is of major benefit to students studying in the STEM areas of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. (obviously I am somewhat biased in my support of this program!). The student that our Club is sponsoring, Jerry Ji from Camberwell Grammar, is really looking forward to the opportunity that Glenferrie Rotary has provided.
The Saturday 20 November's Farmers' Market saw a successful start to the sales of the famous Rotary Cakes and Puddings. Hawthorn Rotary David Pisterman and our treasurer Thelma Hutchison ensured that all visitors and stall holders learned of this quality product from Traditional Foods who have been supporting Rotary for many years.
