Presidential Musings for the Week
Looking at the definition of a lockdown - Is a restriction policy for people or community to stay where they are, usually due to specific risks to themselves or to others if they can move and interact freely. The term "stay-at-home" or "shelter-in-place" is often used for lockdowns that affect an area, rather than specific locations. The Age on Saturday suggests that in a best case scenario, we will be in an average of 1 in 4 days of lockdown towards the end of this year.

Here we go again – As predicted we are in lockdown and our venue Kooyong Tennis Club is shut. Very frustrating but the resilient nature that we have as a club will keep going, thinking of better days to come. Interestingly, Britain’s experiment of opening when they had a high number of vaccinations doesn’t seem to have shown increased infections and deaths! So maybe we might follow that social experiment in the future?

It's Back On - On September 12th!
The Family Fun Day to open the new playground at Yarra Bank Reserve is back on, only this time for Sunday September 12th, 2021. Event celebrants the Mayor, Cr Garry Thompson, and our District Governor Dale Hoy, and our joint MCs for the day, President Mark Ellis and Immediate Past President Rotary Club of Camberwell, Murray Anderson have all signalled their availability for the day. One change, the magician has magically changed identity and will appear suddenly at the playground as Tam the Magician.

So bring the kids, bring the family, bring the dog for an afternoon in the park for Rotary 100. Sunday September 12th, 12 noon - 3pm, Yarra Bank Reserve, Hawthorn.
Lift the Lid - Cookies Fundraiser
Without warning, the snap lock down may have kept the crowds away from last Saturday's farmers market; however those who came to the Lift The Lid stand opened their hearts and gave generously.

During this time it is more important than ever to SHOUT OUT LOUD about Mental health, the pain and suffering so many are going through during these times.

We would like  to acknowledge many small businesses who helped sponsor and support this event to raise money for mental health research.

Lets thank all our special sponsors, House of Biskota for baking the cookies, Bake Boss for supplying the edible icing tops, Fully Promoted for printing the polo shirts for our Volunteers, Melno Distributors Pty Ltd for distributing the flyers, Officeworks for printing the banners and lastly our wonderful Victorians who continue to support us at the farmers market and who bought a cookie, as did Isaiah our New Rotarian.
The Bread Run Needs YOU!
The Salvation Army Bread Run urgently needs new volunteers for the current roster to take us from September 2nd through to the end of the year.

This project calls for two volunteers to go to Bakers Delight in Riversdale Road, Camberwell, collect unsold bread which is generously donated by Bakers Delight, and deliver it the Salvation Army Camberwell.

If you can help, please sign up on the Volunteer Signup List on the club website via this link:

If you are not a club member but would still like to help, please email project leader Alex Marshall directly. Alex will be pleased to add your name to the list.

Each Workshop is funded by D9800 and will conclude with a light lunch.

The World Health Organization has announced that dogs cannot contract Covid-19. Dogs previously held in quarantine can now be released. To be clear, WHO let the dogs out.

I saw an ad for burial plots, and thought to myself “That's the last thing I'll need."

People are making end of the world jokes like there's no tomorrow.

Whatever you do, always give 100%--unless you're donating blood.

What do you call a sleepwalking nun? A roamin’ Catholic.

Dad, are we pyromaniacs? Yes, we arson.

What word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it? Short.
