“Let’s spread the cheer with sincere aplomb as long as you don’t spread the omicron!!” Play safe.

Yes – It is getting to look like Christmas. We are all looking forward to a break. This is the last bulletin for the year and hopefully we will all come back to participate in our Rotary Club in February with gusto. I wish to acknowledge Chris Raw for her work on our Bulletin, which is a necessity to keep informing our members and Richard Blakeman for all his “behind the scenes work”. He is a recent recipient of the Rotary Foundation District Service Award.

Our Farmer’s Market would have had its traditional BBQ for the stall owners and I thank all who participated on that day. My Grandson’s first birthday party being held at my place, prohibited me from attending.

Christmas Farmers Market Welcomes Special Visitor
The Boroondara Farmers Market welcomed a special visitor on Saturday, as Santa cruised in on his reputedly gravitational resistant vehicle crewed by one his talented helpers. To the obvious delight of children at the Market, and not a few parents, Santa did three tours of the Reserve, spreading good cheer and goodwill as he went. Accompanied by a Ho! Ho! Ho! or two of course.

The Christmas Market was the final market for the year and concluded with a sausage sizzle for the stallholders to thank them for their support during a difficult year. Despite Covid restrictions and cancelled markets, fundraising in 2021 has been ahead of last year.

Saturday's Market was PP Ian Salek's last as Market Secretary. Wayne Worldage has now assumed the mantle of Market Secretary, commencing 2022. Thank you Ian for a fabulous job. During your term of leadership the market has grown, both in the number of markets and in the revenue generated. All very good signs for the future!

RYLA caps off a Successful Year for Youth
So far a student, Jerry Ji has been accepted into the NYSF (National Youth Service Forum) being held in January. We also received a District Grant from the Rotary Foundation, which has gone to support a student at Swinburne Senior Secondary College. This will assist in their ongoing costs. Thanks to Don Heath for facilitating these projects.

I am pleased to announce that we have sourced two candidates, who are both students at Deakin University for participation in RYLA. One student is following an arts program and the other an environmental course. Hopefully they may be selected for RYLA 2022.

RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is a district camp held annually. It is a leadership program for young people aged 18 to 25, which focuses on personal growth, leadership development and community.
