G’Day to all and another week of cabin fever. One bright spark in the news issued a statement that it is a great time to get to know your house and home. However, some poor individuals get to see 4 walls only. Our dog has had the best walks in his long life. At 12 years old, Max is still keen, and we haven’t had to coax him outside. Maybe he has cabin fever also!!
The board met last week. The new Rotary Constitution and Bylaws were agreed upon. We will present them in a Special General Meeting via zoom on Sept 22nd. Peter Moore will be sending them out well over the 21 days’ notice, so have a look. He will explain them to all on the night. The new Strategic Plan, formed within the Strategic Action Group under Thelma’s guidance and your input in past meetings, will be presented to the club at a General zoom meeting 25th August.
After 50 years in radio and television, John Deeks (Deeksie) our Guest Speaker at Tuesday's Zoom meeting kept us amused with his charm and relaxed presentation.
We couldn't quite "Come on Down" on Tuesday evening but thanks to the wonders of modern technology (and between football updates - John is another Collingwood supporter) our members and guests Zoomed in to hear just a short part of John's very busy life.
In an age of heightened awareness of the need for organisations to prioritise the safety of children above all else, your club has made great progress in its level of compliance with Rotary Youth Policies, Every Active Member now has a valid Victorian Working With Children Check, which is a mandatory requirement for membership, and almost all have completed a Rotary Volunteer Information and Declaration.
There has been some doubt until now about whether the Declaration Form is required for every member, particularly if they are not in a role that usually brings them into direct contact with minors. District 9800 Insurance Office Mark Perree has written to all clubs to explain why all members are now being asked to complete this declaration. Click on this link to read Marks' letter.
A chat room “wine and cheese” fellowship night is to be held on Tuesday August 18th. Normal zoom times 0715 pm for 0730 to 0830 pm will be applied. Breakout rooms will be organised and the topic will be “What are you doing in isolation?”
If you would like to come please advise John Hudson on Monday 17th August. Partners are most welcome.
Kathryn and I tuned in last Friday evening to watch this movie, Homeland Story, produced with the assistance of The Rotary Club of Melbourne. I have to be honest that I was probably most motivated by a desire to support the excellent Rotary End Trachoma project than to see the movie. What I experienced, however, was a very well made movie, a moving story of the struggles of one village in Arnhem Land, the story of the dedication of an extraordinary Australian, Neville White, and the opportunity to see the world briefly through the eyes of our original Australians and to get just a glimpse of understanding.
This documentary will be shown again this coming Friday evening, August 21st, via Zoom. Cost is $10 and you can book via this link: Bookings at: https://www.trybooking.com/BJRSD
You really must see this remarkable movie. It will move you and it will inspire you. - Richard
I am delighted to invite you to attend, via Zoom a special business breakfast on Building Resilience in Today's Economic Climate. This is the first Business Leaders Breakfast to be held.
Guest speaker, Michael Byrne, has an impressive background at MD/CEO level from within the logistics industry, and is highly regarded as both a speaker and educator, particularly on this topic that is so pertinent to the challenging times we are all facing. I’m sure many Rotary club members have a number of business connections that would benefit from the insights that Michael will share.
