President's Message

One of the benefits of being president is that, through the monthly cluster meetings or other contact, one learns what other clubs are doing. Glenferrie is presently in a cluster with Kew and Hawthorn Rotary (After regionalisation next year this will change!). Kew meets at the Kew golf club and of course have many projects ongoing. One notable project was the recent first antique market in Hawthorn, which they hope to make a regular event. Hawthorn meets for lunch at Kooyong.

Club Meeting Report - 26th March 2024 - Timor Rotary Consortium - WASH project
It was a pleasure to have Camberwell Rotarians, John Walmsley and Justine Paragreen, update us on the WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) program in Timor Leste. The major thrust of this project is to supply isolated communities in Timor Leste with toilets, handwashing facilities and water tanks adjacent to schools. Justine, a senior civil engineer, and John, a retired insurance Broker, have made multiple trips to Timor to install toilets, tanks and washing facilities.

Rotary International President Gordon McInally's Visit
The combined Rotary Districts in Victoria are honoured to be hosting Rotary International President Gordon McInally at two different events in June.

RI President Gordon has been a strident advocate in promoting Mental Health initiatives, that help communities and individuals rebuild their resilience.

We are also delighted to advise that Professor Patrick McGorry AO a psychiatrist known worldwide for his development and scaling up of early intervention and youth mental health services, will be joining us to compliment RI President Gordon.

Rotary Community Leader
Subject: Rotary Community Leader - current status

I am writing to advise that at the close of call for Expressions of Interest for the position of Rotary Community Leader, no EOI had been received for Rotary Community Groups 1 and 2.
Appointments have been made for RCGs 3,4 & 5 and these will be notified in due course.

In accordance with the determined process resulting from no EOI for your RCG, I have been directed to contact club Presidents asking for a volunteer to fill the role for one year, with an option to do two. In this scenario the volunteer becomes the RCL with all responsibilities and privileges, including the training and option to stand for Rotary Communities Nominee.
