Sumba Function At the risk of repetition don’t forget to buy your tickets for 22nd November. It will be a great night with plenty of auction items, music from Simon Messenger our resident DJ, and great food.
Melbourne Cup Week I hope everyone survived Cup Week and had a great time either at the races or just spending time with friends and family. The type of events held during such a week can be a great opportunity for fellowship and networking with non-Rotarians. When you are out and about wear your Rotary pin with pride, and you never know you may find someone interested in coming to a meeting, or a fellow Rotarian from another Club.
It is with great sadness that the club has learned of the passing of Helen Worladge OAM, until recently the Program Manager at Education CHANCES Foundation. Helen, a great friend to Rotary and a wonderful servant to the community, was the wife of club member Wayne Worladge.
To Wayne and his family our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Helen. She has been an inspiration and a source of hope for many, always willing to help where she can, the initiator of many programs bringing benefit to the community and a wonderful mentor. Helen's life will be celebrated at a family only event in the Victorian town of Byaduk. Sometime after that there will be a celebration of life in Melbourne. Vale Helen. You will be greatly missed.
The club's project to build two toilet blocks at the Aladura Primary School in Buedu, Sierra Leone is progressing rapidly, and has now moved in the second phase, the construction of the toilet block buildings. The construction of the two latrine pits is complete, and both pits have been covered with a reinforced cement slab over which the toilet buildings are being constructed. Work is being financed by the Rotary Club of Glenferrie through funds raised through the Boroondara Farmers Market, the sale of LightWalker walking sticks and other specific fundraisers, with the assistance of a District International Grant from The Rotary Foundation.
The first block being built is the male toilet block, consisting of five toilet stalls, one dedicated for staff, plus a sixth urinal stall with three wall-mounted urinals. A temporary wall will isolate two of the stalls as dedicated female toilets until the second block is complete.

Hikaru will be at the club's fundraising dinner for the Sumba Eye Program on November 22nd where club members will be able to farewell her.
Congratulations Hikaru and best wishes for the future from all of us at The Rotary Club of Glenferrie. We will miss you!

On Tuesday October 29th PP Charles Tran addressed the club in his role as a St John Ambulance First Responder, sharing essential first aid skills and demonstrating the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED), recently purchased by the club for deployment at the Boroondara Farmers Market.
The AED is a critical device, just as important as our fundraising efforts, because it has the potential to save lives. This initiative was championed by Past President, Mark Howlett, and with the support of PP Thelma Hutchison and the Bendigo Bank, we secured the necessary funding for this vital equipment.
There was sunshine and good food at the Boroondara Farmers Market on November 2nd, but nothing could compete with the petting zoo. Just ask these three!
