President's Message

Welcome back after a week off Rotary and our long long weekend.

Just a few days ago, a group of members met to discuss the public image and promotion of the club, with the objective of sharing our success stories with the community, highlighting the benefits of being a rotary member, and to support the market. The discussions touched on our social media presence, the bulletin, radio etc.

Sierra Leone BBQ Fundraising Event at Bunnings
In the heart of Hawthorn, a carefully orchestrated event, the Sierra Leone Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser, unfolded after months of meticulous planning alongside Bunnings. It all began at the crack of dawn, as the team descended upon Coles in Tooronga at 7am, eagerly collecting carts brimming with food and drinks, making numerous trips in preparation for the day ahead. Upon reaching Bunnings, the buzz of activity commenced as the crew orchestrated the setup, firing up the BBQs and delving into food preparations.

End Polio Walk - Glenferrie Achieves 450km

Our journey commenced on the 1st of October with the inaugural End Polio Walk starting at Altona, culminating in an inspiring finish at Studley Park in Kew, on the 29th of October. Throughout this eventful period, the invaluable support and dedication from our club members have been nothing short of exceptional. Each contribution, no matter how big or small, played a pivotal role in the resounding success of this initiative.

For the Christmas Party.
We have a pianist for the event.
There will be 2 segments of music.
1st - Freeform.
2nd - Carol singing. I need volunteers to join the choir to lead in a few carols.

In the 1st segment - is there anyone with musical talent, who would like to perform a piece especially with piano accompaniment?

Please let me know so we can organise a timeline.

Club Visit to RIMERN Tuesday 21st November
The Board has suggested that we have our usual Tuesday evening meeting at RIMERN on 21st November. The visit will allow members to see the progress that has occurred at this important community program, that we have been part of since November 2021.

Susie Cole, one of the instigators of RIMERN, will give a brief presentation.

The evening will commence with complementary refreshments (RIMERN wine available) at 6.00pm.

We will then move to the Darebin RSL for dinner at 7.00pm. Partners are very welcome.

Boroondara Farmer's Market - Saturday 4th November
The weather could have been kinder, some patchy sunshine warmed us up after a cool breeze most of the morning.

Attendance of 559 was quite good, considering it was a "long weekend" and Derby Day to boot. Our fellow Rotarians were busy as well, with a Bunnings BBQ underway in Hawthorn.

The expected 23 stallholders became 21 with two no-shows.

There were some highlights:
The Camberwell Structured Playgroup appeared to be busy all morning, and we were pleased that they had a good experience.

First timer Tulay's Dutch Pancakes and Gozelmes was a hit, and they were pleased with the day.

The saxophone player provided some pleasant music, appreciated by people sitting in the Seating Area.

All in all, a pleasant market.

RIMERN Needs Donations Urgently
This is a call out to all members, families of members and friends. RIMERN is desperately short of a wide variety of donated goods ranging from bedding, furniture, white goods and kitchen items. So, if you know of anybody who is down-sizing, moving house or has unwanted but functional household items please refer them to RIMERN.

There are many clients requiring assistance and currently demand exceeds supply. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Finally, a reminder about our Club meeting at RIMERN on Tuesday, 21st November 2023. Please register via the link sent by Joanne Shentu and also in the Rotarian.

David Fallick, Geoff Widmer and I would be happy to answer any questions.

Regards
