The Rotary Foundation is Rotary's charity. From an initial donation of US$26.50 in 1917, the Rotary Foundation has distributed more than US$4 billion in support of community projects throughout the world, the largest of which is the eradication of polio. Projects initiated by the Rotary Club of Glenferrie have benefited significantly from Foundation grants over the past few years. Donations to the Foundation can be made lo, but are converted into US$ when received by the Foundation. The exchange rate used is an arage rate over a period, so the value of A$ donations will decline over the next few months. So now is time to donate to get the best exchange rate available.

The site of polio sufferers in Iron Lungs was common in hospitals around the world up until the 1960sThe polio epidemic in the early part of the 20th century struck fear throughout the community. There was no vaccine until the mid 1950s. There was no escaping it's reach. And it largely but not exclusively affected children, with millions infected and many killed or crippled. The death rate fm polio was 2-5% for children and up to 15-30% for adults.

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eliminate polio from the last three countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

When making your donation to The Rotary Foundation, you can elect to make your donation to The Polio Plus Fund, to help in the fight against polio, or to the Annual Fund, half of which will come back to our Rotary District to fund Global and District grants sponsored by D9800 clubs.
