Susie Cole, immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Prahran, presented an outine of RIMERN(Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network). This is a multi-club Centenary of Rotary in Australia Community Service project to support local people in need. The project aims to support individuals coming out of homelessness, domestic violence, jail, natural disaster and to provide a wide range of household appliances, ranging from kitchen cutlery to beds, linen and furniture.
RIMERN is expected to complement the Eastern Emergency Relief Network(EERN) established 26 years ago and the Western
Emergency Relief Network(WERN) which was set up to provide the same Service in the western suburbs. A 770 square metre two level warehouse has been leased in East Brunswick with a sub-tenant, Canard Solutions that specializes in managing of decluttering, downsizing and estates. As a consequence they have already been a significant donor of furniture and household goods.

As a consequence they have already been a significant donor of furniture and household goods.RIMERN will require $55000pa to operate effectively and the set up costs of $27500 have been provided by Rotary Prahran. Susie is hoping that 31 clubs from Districts 9800 and 9790 will commit to a minimum of $1000 annually for the next three years. So far 13 clubs plan to be involved and the Rotary Club of Glenferrie is invited to be part of RIMERN. Our Board will discuss this matter at its next meeting.
