Dear Members,

What a pleasure it was to see (in person, rather than virtually through zoom) so many of our club members at the Farmers Market on Saturday.  I liken it to being let out in the school playground.  Sincere thanks must go to Ian Salek and Rob Winspear for their persistence, solid work with the Council on COVID-19 safety measures, briefings to those on duty, and general "can do" attitude.    Thank you also to the Farmers Market Committee and the volunteers rostered on Saturday.    All of you contributed to a successful return of the Market.  I had several shoppers express their delight with the re-opening.
VALE Bruce Gough - As advised by email last week, sadly Bruce passed away on 25 May 2020.  There will be a tribute to Bruce from the club in the Herald Sun and The Age early this week.   We have been waiting until the family notice appeared and this happened on Friday.  It is looking likely that there will be a private funeral and at a later date when COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted a memorial event to celebrate and remember the life that Bruce led.   Any changes to this advice will be communicated to you.

Face-to-Face meetings
Wouldn't we all love it.….but not yet.   We have been contacted by Kooyong and whilst they don't have a firm re-open date, they are working to establish their guidelines for business.

Our District Governor Grant Hocking has put together some factors to consider in relation to resuming face-to-face meetings.  A lot of these factors will be taken care of by Kooyong in our case.

  • The restriction requirements of the local and federal Governments.
  • The personal preferences of Rotarians.
  • Age and pre-existing medical conditions of those attending.
  • Current health status and the presence of flu like symptoms.
  • Having received the current flu vaccination.
  • Limiting numbers in attendance.
  • The ability to maintain social distancing, hand sanitation and other healthy habits.
  • No close social contact such as handshakes, hugs or kisses.
  • Provision of alcohol based hand sanitiser in all common areas.
  • Keeping names and contact details of all those attending.
  • Avoiding buffet style meals and ensuring individual serving and utensils.
  • The use of disposable cups.
  • Regular cleaning and disinfecting of rooms and toilets.
  • Minimising congestion.
No Rotary zoom meeting this week being the first Tuesday of the month.

So, for now stay well.   Enjoy your week.  See you on Tuesday 9 June on zoom.

Warm regards,
Thelma
