World Polio Day 2022 and Beyond: Monday, 24 October is World Polio Day. This year the WHO and RI co-hosted the conference of World Polio Day 2022 and Beyond, which was held on 21-22 October in Geneva. WHO director-general, Dr Tedro Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and RI President for 2022-23, Jennifer Jones, discussed the work the two organizations have done together for decades to eradicate Polio, and how both organisations will continue to work on a healthier future for mothers and children.
Focusing on the “Beyond” aims to highlight the added value of building on the investments already made in polio eradication.
And, by extension, the immunization schedule, thus supporting the workforce not only to vaccinate, but also strengthen the capacity to track suspect cases, diagnose them with additional investments in laboratories, and monitor overall programmatic performance towards its goal. Rotarians are ‘People in Action’. Let’s work together and go from Eradicating Polio to Going Beyond: ensuring that not only will children be saved from Polio but also they, and their mothers, will be vaccinated against other vaccine-preventable diseases. Victorian Flood Relief: the District 9800 Disaster Response Committee has been working on coordinating with Rotary club resources to help those impacted by the recent floods in Victoria. What do they need and when? The Disaster Relief Account through RAWCS has been set up to enable deductible donations. The Committee has also reached out to the various relief networks (WERN, RIMERN etc.) and partners who can provide food, furniture and other items that people need right now.
Garden DesignFest 2022 will be held on the weekends of November 12th-13th and 19th-20th. As we did prior to COVID-19, our club will again support the Rotary Club of Kew by volunteering at one of the allocated gardens. We’re still waiting for detailed information and when we do receive it, we will start recruitment of volunteers for the event. AGM: The Glenferrie AGM will be held on Tuesday, 15 November. The club's Annual Report for 2021-2022, the Treasurer’s Report for 2021-2022, the Nomination of the Board for 2023-2024 and the Nomination of the President for 2024-25 will be considered at the meeting.
