Glenferrie was well represented at the International Women's Day Breakfast this year with 7 attendees. 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of Rotary's International Women's celebratory breakfast events.
There were a range of inspirational speakers from different backgrounds.
This panel of online speakers including Jacinda Ardern, Sally Capp, Jennifer Jones, Dr Megan Clark, Colin Carter and Dr Dean Freestone shared their views on future leadership, gender equality in the workforce, opportunities from our experience of Covid and women in sport, jobs and science.
A snapshot of messages on the day include:
- Covid has accelerated working flexibility.
- Pre-Covid Melbourne City Council had 37% of their workforce set up to work from home - post-Covid its 85%.
- Boundaries between work and home have become blurred.
- The Australian Space Agency has 50/50 gender workforce at all levels.
- Let's not limit our vision - living and working on the moon will happen.
- Science is everything.
- Definition of a "good" leader hasn't changed - respectful, team player, someone who builds relationships.
