| What's cooking good looking? Alex Marshall and Geoff Widmer cook up a storm at the Salvation Army, Camberwell |
The men’s cooking classes organised by Wendy Cross continued this winter, and included a cadre of willing Rotary Glenferrie volunteers for this six-week session - Alex Marshall, Christine McCain, Joanne Shentu, Geoff Widmer, Maria Pantling and Jenny deVos.
On 27th August , we just completed the latest six-week session with Geoff Widmer and Alex Marshall overseeing the final two-hour cooking class with regulars. We had a very enthusiastic group of men who enjoy the group fellowship and learning some food preparation and cooking skills at the same time.
Our class sizes range from two to nine men (normally four to five) who enthusiastically join in the cooking experience. At the end of cooking the food, we all sit down to eat the offering, often together with many Salvation Army volunteers, with up to twelve people in the dining room. These times are occasioned with much chatter, with the men sharing experiences and providing views of their respective AFL team’s performances - all experts! Cleanup can be another matter, as some of the men, suddenly have pressing appointments to go to!!
Overall, great collaboration and fellowship with men who have needs and who welcome their weekly interaction with us. Norman Gale at the Salvation Army Camberwell organises this group and welcomes the Rotary Glenferrie volunteer spirit, helping disadvantaged men. I highly recommend participation.
