Speaker: Kersha Chettri
Topic: “The ABC of Social Media for Glenferrie Rotarians”
Kersha has become our social media “champion” along with Garfield Lee, who has been posting the successful BFM story for years on Instagram.
On 13th October, and for the first time during a speaker’s address, Kersha had asked us to turn ON our phones! Kersha then took us on an expedition of social media, to enhance our knowledge and encourage us to use it to promote our club’s activities.
She called it the ABC of Social Media.
|
A for Authenticity: showing real people, real events,
B for Be consistent: short stories more often are better than rare long posts,
C for Connect: start conversations, write something that will get a response.
She stressed that people connect with people e.g. a smiling face beats a flyer (always get permission to photograph someone). Kersha also asked us to “pick a rhythm we can keep” such as
Monday: ‘like’ the new post
Wednesday: leave a kind comment
- Friday: share one post
Born in Tibet and speaking three languages fluently (Tibetan, Nepali and English), Kersha came to Melbourne to study Communication at the RMIT University. She has achieved “Master of Communication” and has completed over four years’ experience in Marketing and Digital content.
Her inspiration for volunteering with us is threefold;
Community. Her father gave his time to the people around him.
Humanity. Her mother taught her that honesty and kindness are never optional.
- Purpose. As social media is her skill, she’d like to use it for good.
It was a wonderful talk, and we all enjoyed the collaborative experience and, hopefully, will use our skills to promote the wonderful work of the Rotary Club of Glenferrie.
