In the early ‘80’s ( I cannot remember which year) Glenferrie and Hawthorn Rotary clubs shared an Exchange Student from Norway. Her name was Kristin Engvig and she hailed from Kristiansund, and her father was a pharmacist.
We started Kristin at Fintona in Balwyn but after awhile we transferred her to Swinburne where she was much happier. The Sutherland family hosted her for 3 months during which time she and another Norwegian student treated us to many Norwegian culinary delights. Kristin was a model Exchange Student and we kept up our relationship after she went home.
After a few years my elder son Scott was posted to Warsaw for a year and along the line he somehow caught up with Kristin in Italy. At this time my wife ( Jenny ) took a trip to Europe to see Scott and in their travels went to Norway and stayed with the Engvig family in Kristiansund.Now all these years later my son told me to look up Kristin on the Internet. To my surprise there was Kristin, now the Founder and CEO of a world wide women’s group called WIN --- she lectures all over Europe and is highly regarded in that sphere.
A review of Kristin reads as follows: Kristin is a visionary, writer, speaker and the driving force behind WIN’s activities and the evolution of the feminine leadership journey.
This story just shows the power of Rotary and it’s programs.
