President's Message
The year seems to be racing away. Soon, in the words of Mark Ellis, I will be a feather duster.

It is worth reiterating a central issue for our club, namely that we are almost totally dependent upon the Farmers Market for funding. No market and our ability to do all our amazing projects would largely vanish. Whilst the returns from the market have largely held up, there has been a decline, which can be observed in farmers markets all over Melbourne.

Whilst the Boroondara Farmers Market continues to generate significant revenue for Rotary causes, the trend in patronage and revenue is in decline

Sierra Leone Project Officially ends with Veronica Buckets
The club's project in Sierra Leone has been signed off, with the final task being the installation of four 'Veronica buckets', one at each entrance to the two blocks. The 'Veronica buckets', so named for their inventor Veronica Bekoe, provide clean water with which the children can wash their hands after using the latrines.
Veronica buckets have been placed at toilet block exits to enable the children to wash their hands after using the toilet
The club's Sierra Leone project took more than two years to define, fund and implement, forging strong ties for our club along the way, engaging almost the entire club and providing significant exposure for the Rotary Club of Glenferrie brand. The main fundraising project was the sale of the innovative 'LightWalker' walking sticks, which was promoted online, at the Farmers Market, and in person through cold-call sales.  Our major partner became the Rotary Club of Bo in Sierra Leone. The President and Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Bo are guest speakers at the club meeting this Tuesday, April 8th. Congratulations to everyone who worked on this project from beginning to end, and a very special thank you to the Rotary Club of Bo. Truly, Rotarians at work.

At our March 25th club meeting, we were privileged to hear from Trevor Moyle, an inspiring humanitarian and long-time friend of Nepal, who spoke about his work with two impactful organisations: the Community Leadership Nepal Foundation and the Smile-High Foundation.

Trevor Moyle (second from left), Rotary Club of Moreland, addressed the club meeting March 25th, regarding his more than twenty years work in Nepal
Trevor, who is co-founder and chair of both foundations, shared insights into the grassroots development work being carried out in Nepal, focusing on empowering local communities and supporting education, health, and leadership initiatives.

Always look on the bright side? (Of Life)

A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded:

Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?"

"We're flying QANTAS," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"

QANTAS?" exclaimed the hairdresser. "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"
