The Rotary year continues at its usual furious pace. In October we have at our first meeting, a visit from District Governor, Michael Lapina. Michael is passionate about Rotary and is an entertaining speaker, this will no doubt be a highlight. This will be followed in November by the AGM and notices will be circulated shortly. November will of course be followed by our Christmas function which is again always a highlight.
Your committee has also taken a baby steps toward “future proofing" the Club by forming a committee to investigate other avenues of funding.
On Tuesday night we welcomed Mr Geoffrey Wanless, the CEO of Ferron Energy Pty Ltd, as our guest speaker. The topic of the talk was a new form of energy being developed by Ferron Energy based on burning iron, in the form of iron oxide powder. The process was invented in the Netherlands, however Ferron Energy claim to be leading the world in its potential commercial development.
What are the advantages of burning Iron. Firstly, the process is supported by a hydrogen base and the resulting burn give off no carbon dioxide, which is the major Climate change problem gas.
What a pleasure it is to write about a very good Market result on Saturday 21st September!
The weather was a bit mixed, but attendance of both stallholders and patrons was excellent, even if one stallholder driver ended up at Bundoora. Our new stallholders "The Omelette Guys" and "Stray (hot) Dogs" added more choice for our patrons.
Thank you to Shift Captains Mark Ellis and Simon Messenger, aided by Kaye Widmer, Matt Litton, Jennifer De Vos, Isaiah Lahai, Geoff Widmer and Chris Raw.

We are looking for your support for this very important Club Event. The working committee is putting together a program of entertainment, fun and fund raising which take the form of a Silent Auction where it is the highest "silent bid" which gets the item. This can also be great fun as you try to outbid your fellow Rotarians and guests. It is also intended to have a Live Auction for at least one high-end product (to be announced when confirmed).
Walk with Us in October to raise money for the End Polio Campaign. Register yourself, walk as an individual or form a Team with family, friends and club members to support Rotary’s priority project: to eradicate polio from the world. You can walk at your own pace over the month with your kms and fundraising dollars recorded on the Walk with Us website - https://www.rotarywalkwithus.org/
The official launch of Walk with Us will take place on Sunday 6 October as part of the “Paws for Polio” event at Elsternwick Park. Bring your four-legged friend, if you have one (or borrow one?) and walk together in a loop around the park.
District Governor, Michael Lapiña will share with club member's the work being done at District level, and plans for the future. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Rotary and our District.
