Presidential Musings for the Week
Theme for June is Fellowship.

Well, here we are again in the lockdown we all predicted would happen. Janet and myself did predict this and that is why we took off along the coast east via Lakes Entrance, Merimbula, Mollymook to Kiama and home. Highly recommend the southeast coast of our great land. No better excuse now not to go local and help our country folk. Unfortunately, we had heavy rain along the Victorian coast, but it was thought provoking to see the scorched earth where, our fellow Victorians suffered and the feeling of pride, that Glenferrie Rotary had assisted their plight.

Thanks to all who attended the District Assembly (DA) and I appreciate Geoff and Isiah getting up to tell us of their experiences at the DA. Public speaking is not easy and I was really happy with all our directors not shying away from the limelight at our Forum Night.

Club Meeting 25th May - Club Forum
Tuesday 25th of May was a club forum which involved each committee updating us on what is happening within their committees. This forum is a valuable exercise for the club to go through, having at least two reporting nights a year,  Members are able to listen to what the Director of each service has to share about their programs. It is also, if time permits, a value to members to be able to have input by asking questions and possibly teasing out some of the points that had been mentioned.

Reports were delivered on International, Foundation, Environment, Membership and Community Service.

The evening was a very busy one and a valuable one especially for new/potential members to the club.
Fourth Lockdown Doesn't Deter Market Goers
It may have been Lockdown, but everyone is still allowed to shop and there's no better way to do it than in the fresh air, well away from recirculated bugs and communal carry baskets!
And it seems that many people in Boroondara and Stonnington agree, because the market was doing a bustling trade all morning on Saturday May 29th. Despite the greeting Rotarians looking like Darth Vader's deputies, there was a steady stream of shoppers well prepared with their mobile phone apps to check in on the Victorian Government website, and pay their $2 entry charge on Apple Pay or GPay, and enjoy shopping in the open air among friends. What better way to spend a Saturday morning! To see photos from Saturday's market, click on Read More.

This Rotarian Went to Great Lengths to Deliver on Community Service
Rotarians everywhere go to great lengths to deliver projects that benefit the community. Rotarian Graham Middleton, Past President of the Rotary Club of Corryong in north eastern Victoria went to greater lengths than most when he became the first person to swim the length of the mighty Murray River. Truly an inspiration.

Photographed by a touring Glenferrie Rotarian who stumbled upon this plaque in a quiet park in the beautiful town of Corryong, NE Victoria.

Rotary MetalHead Fellowship
The Rotary Metalhead Fellowship was the brainchild of a Rotarian in Germany who has a passion for metal and hard rock music. He strongly believes that the love of this music is not incompatible with the values of Rotary. As a result of his enthusiasm, the “loudest Fellowship within Rotary” was formally recognised by RI in 2018.

Heavy Metal music originated in the late 1960s in the UK and US and continued through the ‘70s and ‘80s. Essentially it is a genre of rock music that includes a group of related styles that are intense, virtuosic, powerful and, at times, aggressive.
