Presidential Musings for the Week
Hi all and welcome to the latest lock down news!  We are all rolling with the punches here.

Personally, nearly back to normal numbers in my surgery and now we are “paused”. My staff have been amused at the many variations of wearing a face mask.  Cover nose or not.  Cover moustache and nose only.  Doubled up over lips only.  Please make sure the mask fits over the nose and mouth.  In many there is a metal filament designed to go over the contour of the nose and stop leak up into the eyes.  Can assist stopping misting of glasses.  Better get used to it since we are in for a long haul.  I think an enterprising Rotarian should design a Rotarian face mask?  Maybe for Glenferrie Rotary??  A community project??

Meeting Report for July 12th 2020
It was great to hear from Alex Marshall a new member at our recent Zoom meeting.

Closing in on 100% Compliance
The Club is closing in on achieving 100% compliance with Rotary Youth policies as more and more members complete and lodge their Rotary Volunteer Youth Declaration Form. The concerted push for full accreditation began in 2017 following the updating of State Government legislation that required all organisations involved with youth promote child safety as the highest priority. With the assistance of District 9800 legal advisors, the club board published the club's Child Safe Environment Policy in October of that year. 100% of members now have a valid Victorian Working With Children Check and 68% of members have completed and lodged their Rotary Volunteer Youth Declaration. President Mark has now asked members who have not yet done so to complete their Declarations as soon as possible so that the club can achieve 100% on both counts.

Get Ready for the Hamper Raffle
As an expression of thanks to Glenferrie Rotarians for the Bushfire Relief work earlier this year, the Rotary District 9820 East Gippsland Cluster has generously donated a highly valuable premium hamper containing many local gourmet goods. The hamper will be auctioned at the next Club Meeting involving the clever use of virtual technology and the talents of a virtual auctioneer.

The Rotary Club of Glenferrie has joined a consortium applying for a Global Grant from the Rotary Foundation to provide further assistance to the people of East Gippsland.

Tasma Wischer has kindly let us know through PP John Hudson that Past President John Wischer (1998-99) is comfortable in Hedley Sutton, Camberwell, but is allowed only family as visitors, one at a time. Visitations must be booked.

Tasma has told us that John is very frail and has fallen a couple of times recently. Fortunately no damage done. His main problem is Parkinson's, but he also has a relatively less severe dementia problem. John can talk freely but is a little forgetful.

PP John Wischer is remembered fondly by many at the club as a good friend and a member of long standing who contributed greatly to the community throughout his active years in Rotary. Our best wishes and thoughts go to John and Tasma and family during this especially difficult time for those in care.
Message from the AG About "Homeland"
Imagine watching a film that has been produced from 20,000 photos and 140 hours of video to tell the story of the Donydji Community - one of our 1200 Indigenous Homelands in Australia. And from the comfort of your own lounge room!

In 1974, Dr Neville White, a biological anthropologist, spent part of each year on the Homeland, responding to the community's request to resist the threat of mining license claims. HOMELAND STORY is a moving portrait of a resilient and determined community facing the challenges of maintaining their Homeland and preserving their vibrant culture.

Clubbing with Rotary - International Fellowship Clubs
Other than being a Rotarian, what do you like to get up to in your spare time? Is it rollerblading, parapenting, enjoying fine art or perhaps philately? Whatever your penchant, Rotary has a group for you. Rotary Fellowships are global, independently organised groups of Rotarians, their spouses/partners and Rotaractors, who share a common vocation or recreational interest.

LOL
It’s with great sadness that I have to mention, the loss of a few local businesses, as a result of COVID-19.
  • a submarine company has gone under;
  • a manufacturer of food blenders has gone into liquidation;
  • a dog kennel has had to call in the retrievers;
  • a company selling paper for origami enthusiasts has folded
  • inter Flora is pruning its business

Would you Buy an Electric Car?
Would you Buy an Electric Car?

Tesla Model 3. It looks smart, but will it get me from A-B?

Andrew Rothfield, husband of Immediate Past President Thelma Hutchison,  is one of the quietest men on the road in their new Tesla. With all the mod cons associated with this avanced technology, it is true to say that it is very hard to hear Andrew coming. Medical practioner, computer guru, cyclist and environmentalist, Andrew will talk to us about the joy of owning an electric vehicle, and the amount of money he spends each year on petrol.
