This coming Tuesday night we will welcome Amelia Hamer as a new member. Amelia has been a regular visitor over the past month or so and will no doubt be a valuable member.

A very successful fundraising event contributing $800 towards the Sierra Leone project. Even the persistent, and at times heavy, rain didn’t dampen the spirits of those attending.

Rotary Club of Glenferrie Welcomes Dr Tania Miletic: A Journey of Peace and Education
On the 28th of November, the Rotary Club of Glenferrie had the honour of hosting Dr. Tania Miletic, the Assistant Director of the University's Initiative for Peacebuilding within the Arts Faculty. Dr. Miletic shared her inspiring journey, from being the child of immigrant parents to her distinguished career in peace and conflict studies.

PP Robert Hogan received a Paul Harris Fellow recognition with two rubies for his continual support of the Rotary Foundation. Robert is a member of the Paul Harris Society, where he pledges to support the Foundation every year by making his donation. His PHF was presented by Gabe Hau, a member of the Rotary District 9800 Foundation Committee and past Assistant Governor of the Riverside cluster.
Congratulations to Rotary District 9800's very first Peace Fellow Dr Tania Miletic, who was featured in the Rotary International Rotary Magazine December 2023 edition. Dr Miletic, who has a book coming out soon, was guest speaker at the club meeting on November 28th (see meeting report).

NYSF is a program for students completing Year 11, and considering pursuing a science, engineering or technology (STEM) based career. It involves off campus and on campus projects. The program is residential and runs over 12 days in January. This year it will be held at the Australian National University, Canberra (5-13 January 2024). Luckily, we have one student from St Catherine's School, Nadia Mohamed, who will be attending the program.
The Vision of NYSF is to be a leader in connecting young Australians with diverse science and technology futures. And it's Purpose is to deliver immersive and inclusive youth-led experiences that connect young Australians with science and technology pathways.

In a twist of fate, Harry ended up being a patient half-way through his medical training at the University of Sydney. Whilst backpacking in Europe he was struck down by a severe form of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), and whilst he knew of this condition, he had no idea that it would change his life’s trajectory forever-more.
Harry will talk to us about his experience as a patient and also about the work he is currently doing as a Rehabilitation Medicine Physician.
