Well we are really in lockdown and there appears no end in sight! I think we are into masks to Christmas. My last Bulletin was talking about strange ways of wearing masks. Now, we are asked to wear them all the time. People are adapting to a new age. In my practice, I commented on how much in good shape this 90 year old lady was, but she replied, “things would be different with my mask off!”.
I know golfers are coming to grasp at the proper method on wearing masks. Janet for one!
Helen Rolleston has been in touch through PP John Hudson to let us know that Past President Terry Rolleston (1999-2000) is doing well in care, though a little forgetful due to low dose dementia. Terry enjoys getting around his accomodation in his electric wheelchair and is able to receive family visitors for maximum one-hour visits a few times per week. Unfortunately non-family visitors are not allowed during the current public health crisis.
If there can be any benefit at all from being locked down and locked in, it is that it provides the opportunity to get on and do stuff that needs doing at home. And so it is for the club Board, which is currently conducting a review of the Club's constitution and by-laws. The review is the first such review in seven years and is being undertaken by a Board sub-committee led by Club Secretary Peter Moore.
EndTrachoma by 2020, A five-year Rotary districts of Australia project
The world around us, our environment, provides a reflection of our state of being. It mirrors who we are or what we have become. One reflection that Australia is yet to deal with is the state of Aboriginal health and wellbeing, especially in remote communities. In 2016, Australia was the worlds last developed country not to have eliminated Trachoma, a blinding infectious and totally preventable eye disease affecting some of our Aboriginal communities. When a group of Rotarians got on board, they didn’t send medications out into communities, they sent mirrors.

Ol' Fred was in the hospital, badly ill. The family called his personal physician and best friend to stand with them. As his best friend stood next to the bed, Ol' Fred's condition appeared to deteriorate and he motioned frantically for something to write on.
His friend lovingly handed him a pen and a piece of paper, and Ol' Fred used his last bit of energy to scribble a note, then immediately after, died. The friend, in his grief, put the note in his wallet and forgot about it.
2 days later, at the funeral, as he was finishing a speech about the life of his best friend Fred, he realized that he still had the note.
He said, "You know, Ol' Fred handed me a note just before he died. I haven't looked at it, but knowing Fred, I'm sure there's a word of inspiration there for us all."
Tesla Model 3. It looks smart, but will it get me from A-B?
Andrew Rothfield, husband of Immediate Past President Thelma Hutchison, is one of the quietest men on the road in their new Tesla. With all the mod cons associated with this avanced technology, it is true to say that it is very hard to hear Andrew coming. Medical practioner, computer guru, cyclist and environmentalist, Andrew will talk to us about the joy of owning an electric vehicle, and the amount of money he spends each year on petrol.
