Well we are really in lockdown and there appears no end in sight! I think we are into masks to Christmas. My last Bulletin was talking about strange ways of wearing masks. Now, we are asked to wear them all the time. People are adapting to a new age. In my practice, I commented on how much in good shape this 90 year old lady was, but she replied, “things would be different with my mask off!”.
I know golfers are coming to grasp at the proper method on wearing masks. Janet for one!Not much had happened this week. I thank all those who have signed and put in their Youth Declaration Forms. There is a lot of confusion over the need for these forms. We are in a difficult world, where working with children and youth put us at unfathomed dangers. Unintentionally, we can evoke incorrect assumptions on our behaviours and so it is important to be covered as much as possible. I remember as a Senior Consultant at the Royal Vic Eye and Ear Hospital, there was so much anxiety when we were basically ordered to put in a “working with Children form” to remain working there. Again, communication was the problem. I have asked that a better explanation on paper is put forth from higher levels to assist our members in the decision to sign or not. Not signing the form will not stop Rotary Insurance covering you in matters unrelated to child safety but in the event of an unexpected happening involving children, you and our club may be at risk of being left high and dry.
There are sub committees working on the Constitution and Strategic Action Plans. I hope to present them both soon to the members within the structure of our normal meetings, although we require a Special General Meeting for the Constitution to be presented. Please watch your emails in the pursuing weeks. (Let’s face it – we are not exactly running off anywhere at present!!)
I look forward to Tuesday’s talk on electric cars. I welcome Thelma’s husband Andrew to open up on the virtues of going electric. Andrew has a wealth of information and ideas on these issues. He is a good example of the varsity of experience in our partners as well as within our club. When I was a lad, owning a V8 attracted the fairer sex – almost a mating status symbol. I remember as a Surf Life Saver for Torquay being transported in the back of a Holden Sandman to various carnivals along the West Coast (no seatbelts!!!). Now it appears that a silent electric car will attract their attention. Well it has my attention also, now having just bought a hybrid to replace my “turning 50 Mini cooper” of 11 years.
