In this past week we concluded the AGM and formally welcomed Peter Moore as President Elect and Helena Wimpole as President Nominee. Members gave a hearty congratulations to both. Additionally, we formally recognised the board for next year and again gave well deserved congratulations. I want to thank Secretary Geoff for his detailed preparation for the AGM without which things may not have run so smoothly. I also want to thank on behalf of the club Thelma for her tireless work in maintaining the club finances so expertly and additionally Richard Blakeman for his skillful review of the year end accounts.
Anita Morkans, Joanne Shentu and PP Charles Tran cleared the decks of Rotary Christmas Cakes and Puddings at the Boroondara Farmers Market November 18th, their first appearance this year. There are more on the way!
The club's LightWalker Walking sticks attracted considerable attention at the Farmer's Market on Saturday November 18th, with sales momentum increasing during the first week the sticks have been on sale. Online orders have also been steady, and a number of potential outlets for sticks have been identified following enquiries from Market patrons.
Customers have been impressed with the quality of the LightWalker sticks, considering they are being offered at very competitive prices. Funds raised will bring new toilets, fresh water and hope for the future for the little children at the Aladura Primary School in Sierra Leone. And that's more than enough causes to shake your stick at!

In Rotary Foundation Month, and when parts of the world are again plunged into the despair of conflict, we are reminded that a core purpose of Rotary is to promote peace, in our lives at home and work, in our community and in the world.

In this past week we heard an inspiring talk from Murray Verso regarding the Rotary challenge to eliminate Polio.
Murray has been a Rotarian for more than 40 years, twice president, District Governor in 2014 and past district 9800 chair of the rotary foundation committee. Murray has performed in many other capacities for rotary such as convening symposiums, co-chairing seminars and generally representing rotary. Murray and his wife Irene are both retired GP’s and most notably Murray was medical officer of health for the municipalities of Williamstown and Hobsons Bay.

Glenferrie Rotarian Catherine Eagleson has been making waves on the Rotary world stage, in a year when Rotary's focus turns to mental health under the leadership of Rotary International President Gordon McInally. Club members are aware that Catherine is the principal behind Clue Detective Puzzle Agency. It has been demonstrated that solving puzzles can alleviate anxiety It does this by helping puzzlers to engage their brains in a challenging and enjoyable activity, that will provide a sense of achievement.
Glenferrie Rotarian Catherine Eagleson's work with the Clue Detective Puzzle Agency and its relevance to sufferers of anxiety has come to the attention of Rotary International President Gordon McInally.
In the interest of mixing things up a bit, and potentially to attract new members to our vibrant Rotary Club, you are encouraged to bring along a guest to any of our Dinner Meetings.
Your guest may not initially have an interest in joining Rotary Glenferrie, but coming to a Dinner Meeting will provide an opportunity to meet new people, have good conversation and hear from a topical speaker. It may spark a curiosity to learn more about what we do, and they may be excited to come along again.
I am taking this opportunity to again remind people of the Education CHANCES Foundation function.
As we are all aware the Club is a major benefactor of the Education CHANCES Foundation through the Farmers Market. Half of the proceeds of the market goes to the Education CHANCES Foundation. These proceeds will each year provide scholarships to over 100 disadvantaged students. who either live or go to school in Boroondara.
Education CHANCES Foundation is having an end of year function on 5 December to raise awareness, raise funds and farewell Elida Brereton, the Chair and Helen Worladge, as Program Director.
The event is at 5.30 pm at Georges, 1st Floor 819 Burke Road Camberwell. It is a cocktail type of function and tickets are $54 which includes finger food and two drinks.
At a recent Glenferrie meeting our guest speaker was Faye Kirkwood, a member of Caulfield Rotary, who spoke on the importance of bees in the world and a group known as Rotarians for Bees,part of ESRAG project (yes, another Rotary acronym and stands for the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group). Rotarians for Bees was started by Canterbury Rotarian John McCaskill and Faye around 5 years ago and has become a multi-club group with members in NSW and ACT. Its mission statement is to provide protection and sustainability for the current and future health of bees and other pollinators in the State of Victoria (and further), through ESRAG and the collaborative resources and efforts of Rotary Districts, beekeeping Clubs, the Apiary Industry and local, state and federal governments.
We have our usual Tuesday evening meeting at RIMERN on 21st November. The visit will allow members to see the progress that has occurred at this important community program that we have been part of since November 2021.

We will then move to the Darebin RSL for dinner at 7.00pm. Partners are very welcome.
