I hope everyone is still having a safe and good Easter. Easter is not only a significant religious event; it is a time for families together. So, I hope that our “family” the RC of Glenferrie members will get together tomorrow night for another general club meeting.
Last Tuesday night was a great success for our Celebration of Golf night. For those present, we were treated to talks by the sponsors for the lift the Lid Golf day, and an education from Steffan Scutti, the longest drive champion as to style and strategy, Steffan was interviewed by Bob Lambert of RC Canterbury. We were graced by the presence of our DG Dale Hoy and our AG Lili Teichman both signifying the importance of this major fund raiser, that Elizabeth Dumonic and the task force of Richard Blakeman, Thelma Hutchison, Don Heath, Don Moore Robert Hogan, Tim Gale and Teresa Liu. The famous cricketer, Merv Hughes will be there also. This is the day to be involved and be seen!! The good principle of golf is that anyone of all shapes, sizes, age and conditioning can be involved. It is not a walk wasted but builds friendship and fellowship.
Steffan Scutti can drive a golf ball more than 400 metres from the tee with just one stroke, without even losing the ball. Well he is the Australian Long Drive Champion after all, and last Tuesday night he was our guest speaker at a Celebration of Golf special club meeting in the leadup to the Club's Charity Golf Day on May 24th.
Steffan was expertly interviewed by Canterbury Rotarian Bob Lambert, whose humorous but probing questions shed some light on how one gets to drive the ball so far. Members and guests heard from representative of some of the impressive sponsors of our golf day, General Manager of Silver Star Motors Mercedes-Benz, James Hondrakis, David Coulon of GS Golf Studios and Angela Stevenson representing Tiger Moth Flights Yarra Valley. Club Director Elizabeth Dumonic also described the contribution of our other generous sponsors, whose logos are prominently displayed on the Golf Day webpage. We also welcomed District Governor Dale Hoy and Assistant Governor Riverside Cluster Lili Teichman for a very enjoyable, informative and special club meeting.
The excitement is building for the Lift the Lid Golf Day at Kingston Heath Golf Course on May 24th 2022. Steffan will be there, and will be able to play your drive shot for you on the 14th hole if you like. The event will raise funds for important research into mental health, funded through Australian Rotary Health, one of the largest funders of mental health research in Australia. The Paul Harris Society Newsletter - April (excerpts)
Welcome to this newsletter where you will find out a little bit more about the District 9800 Paul Harris Society, of which I am the Chair, and hopefully be inspired to join yourself. Now this is not a secret society and has a very impressive history! On the 2nd of June 2007 the Paul Harris Society, with nineteen members, was chartered under the guidance of Past District Governor Bernie Walsh and District 9800 Foundation Chair Chris Don. In that first Rotary year the numbers grew to thirty members with thirty two members by the end of December 2008.
Two cargo planes packed with tons of medical equipment have already been flown from Chicago, USA, to Ukraine where members helped to unload the supplies. Rotary members in Ukraine, where Russia's military action has caused a humanitarian crisis, are in daily contact with hospitals to determine what supplies are needed most.
Rotary International announced today that more than US$7million has been raised through Rotary so far for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
