President's Message
Well, I have survived my first month as President and we are well under way into the second month, and the ship is still afloat.
Scatter Visits - President Ian of the Balwyn Club has instituted a program where members are encouraged to visit at other Clubs in Boroondara, to get a feel of how other clubs go about their business. I think it’s a worthwhile initiative and one to be encouraged. If you want to participate and visit other Clubs let me or Rod Smith know.
Presidents Lunch - The next Presidents lunch is at the Glenferrie Hotel on 21 August at 12.30 Please let me know if you are attending.

Peacebuilder Committee Formed
The Rotary Club of Glenferrie has formed a Peacebuilder Committee under the leadership of Foundation Director Joanne Shentu. The formation of the  Committee is a first step towards the club qualifying to become a Peacebuilder Club.  A Peacebuilder Club is one that consciously chooses to focus on peace and assist in furthering Rotary's mission to “enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace.” Peacebuilder clubs help build stronger, more harmonious communities.

If you would like to learn more about the club's new drive towards becoming a Peacebuilder club and become a member of the Peacebuilder Committee, please contact Foundation Director Joanne Shentu: Click here
A plaque bearing the Rotary Peace icon will be mounted on each of the two toilet blocks being built at the Aladura Primary School in Buedu, Sierra Leone. The project in Sierra Leone has been nominated as the first Peacebuilder project for the Rotary Club of Glenferrie, promoting peace, understanding and goodwill between nations.

SEP Fundraising Committee Meeting
Proposed meeting at Mark Ellis's place - 64 Campbell Street, Kew for Tuesday night at 7pm 20th August.

Those who have expressed an interest in being involved - I hope to see you here. A pub is too noisy, so I propose to order several pizzas for the night. (and copious beverages)
This is the first meeting to organise a committee. I will be updating the group as to what has been done already. I will need assistance in the auctions, both silent and loud please.
There will also be a need for assistance in ticketing and table placements.

I Need an RSVP by Monday 19th if coming please. So, I have an idea of numbers.

PP Mark Ellis

DIK Opening Day an Inspiration
The Rotary Club of Glenferrie was well represented at the Rotary Donations in Kind Open Day on August 10th. The massive warehouse containing donated goods was busting at the seams with valuable merchandise just waiting for a club project, and with eager Rotarians looking for opportunities. The sausage sizzle didn't do day any harm either.

Rotary DIK, a D9800 initiative,  accepts donations of all sorts of goods which, in partnership with Rotary clubs in Australia,  it ships to those in need both within Australia and to countries around the globe. Truly recycling at its best!
The Rotary Club of Glenferrie was well represented at the DIK open day on Saturday August 10th 2024. International Service Director Amelia Anderson and Sierra Leone Project Lead Isaiah Lahai noted many opportunities for future projects, both within Australia and in support of communities in Sierra Leone. The container is bound for Tonga loaded to the brim with donated medical and dental equipment.
