President's Message
Dear Members,

"Zoom" - this word has become an everyday utterance in my life and maybe yours as well for the past eight weeks.  I have been musing on it's meaning so google says...... it can be used as a verb, noun or an exclamation, eg "a car zoomed past", "the camera zoom changed smoothly from a long shot to a close up", and "suddenly, zoom he's off".       And now we use it in another context as a communication tool.

Zoom will continue to be used........

Don't Miss Trivia Night This Tuesday Evening Via ZOOM - Useless Information Expected!
What better way to spend an evening than dialling into a ZOOM get-together at the Rotary Club of Glenferrie for a bit of gossip and a whole lot of fun. The club has scheduled a Fellowship Night for the first Tuesday in May, featuring a Trivia Quiz led by internationally recognised quizmaster Cheryl Pisterman, who has experience in this field. It should be heaps of fun, so bring a drink, bring a dictionary but most of all bring a friend because you may need some help. And bring yourself too of course.

If you didn't get your invitation with the ZOOM access details, click on this link to register and from the event page, email host Cheryl Pisterman for the details.

When People Work Together They Can Create Something Magnificent
The Rotary 100 Playground Project reached two new milestones during the past week, with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Boroondara, and the presentation of the preliminary design drawings to the project consortium. Capturing the essence of the site, the exciting, unique play equipment and art work will be unlike anything seen in a playground, not just in Boroondara, but across the world!

The Rotary feature captures the spirit of place and emphasises collaboration at all levels. Said designer Benjamin Gilbert: "The more people that play on the feature, the more fun they will have. It is meant to show that when people work together they can create something magnificent".

Date Set for Changeover
Changeover this year is as important as ever but it will be a Changeover with a difference. Normally the club's social highlight of the year, eclipsing even the Christmas Party and the Annual BBQ on the Terrace, Changeover is a time when the club comes together to reflect on the year's achievements, celebrate some outstanding contributions, thank the club's leaders and welcome the new leadership team.

This year however, Changeover will be different - for a start there will be no charge! And it will be via ZOOM, so you can attend from the comfort of your own home. Put this date in your diary. CHANGEOVER: June 16th, 2020, 7:15pm - 8:30pm, hosted by President Thelma and President Elect Mark Ellis. More to come!!

Vietnam Project Wins District Award
The Rotary Club of North  Balwyn has been  recognised by District 9800 for the excellence of its multi-club project in Vietnam which Glenferrie Rotary recently agreed to join.

The project is designed to support the poorer communities in Phu Tho Province, Vietnam, by providing support in child health, school equipment, medical supplies and creating income producing ventures. North Balwyn Rotary initiated the project and they have been working with three other Rotary clubs. Each club has adopted a village in the Phu Tho Province which is in the north west of Vietnam.
Glenferrie has now joined the project and adopted a fifth village, called Vo Thanh, in the same province.

Rosters
It has come to the attention of the Bulletin Editor that half a dozen people with their aunties turned up to do the bread run last Thursday. Obviously some confusion exists about where to find the Rosters.

By member request, Rosters are password protected so you must be logged in to the club's website on ClubRunner. There are a number of ways that you can access the rosters on the website. Here are a couple of them:

1. On your member profile. Click on:
     > Member Area
        > My ClubRunner
           > My Commitments

There you will find your duties listed across all rosters.

2. On the Home Page, take the Menu item 'Member Resources' and click on Rosters.

3. For this week only, here they are in the Bulletin:

From the Archives
For those of you with a love of history and a hankering for the old days when we could all go outside and do something, and for those of you who missed reading it at the time, here is a link to The Glenferrie Rotarian Vol 39 No. 40, May 6th 2014. President Jan Twite was looking for volunteers, there was a meeting guest speaker talking about tracing your ancestry, and there was a poetic lament from a club member's father.
Lockdown Laughter
With thanks to Ian Salek

Paddy was a youthful and hardworking Irishman at a Coastal village in Ireland.

Daily he would pole a heavy old punt out to sea then work a heavy iron grapple to bring up the sand oysters which he sold to the local ice works.

He was a man of regular habits he always arrived home each day at a certain time.

Sadly, Paddy did not realise the heavy grappling was taking a toll on a faulty heart.

One day he failed to come home, so his wife contacted the police to investigate him being missing.

They rowed out and found Paddy dead in the punt beside him a huge grapple full of oysters he'd tried to hoist aboard.

Headlines next day in the 'Irish Times Newspaper' said........................................

Wait for it!

OYSTERS KILPATRICK !!!!
