Over the past couple of months, the board executive has been updating the Glenferrie Rotary 3-year plan, and the plan was reviewed and approved by the board at the last meeting. At this week’s meeting, the 2023-2026 plan will be launched and shared with members.
The plan provides a guide to the board and all members on our goals, aspirations and values. It maintains a strong connection with Rotary International guidelines, while drilling down to our own targets at Glenferrie.
As has been said ‘Life is not all buttercups and roses. That was brought well home by our Guest Speaker Lachlan McCulloch, formerly an undercover cop, to our genteel group of Rotarians and Guests at our Tuesday evening Meeting on August 29th. In front of a packed room of 41 attendees Lachlan gave us an enthralling insight into a life, thankfully, of which we are not part.
In a police career spanning two decades, Lachlan McCulloch was commended for bravery, exposed police corruption, tracked heavy drug gangs and went deep undercover to infiltrate Australia's most dangerous crime family.

No sign of Robert Winspear's Austin 7, but there was plenty of Morris at the first Boroondara Farmers Market for spring, one of the better attended first markets for the month for some time. Surely it was the burst of warm spring weather together with the jolly Morris dancing that brought out the punters. The Britannia Morris troupe, which dances the style of Morris Dancing originating in the Cotswalds, filled the air with the jolly sound of sticks clacking, accordion music and the occasional hoorah! And who wouldn't shout hoorah on the first Market day of spring!
Says Farmers Market Coordinator Wayne Worladge: "A rather chilly start to the day was more than compensated for by most pleasant sunshine later. We had an improved number of smallholders, and the best First Saturday patronage this year. Thank you to Shift Captains Carol Benson and Peter Moore, aided by Charles Tran, Helena Wimpole, Peter Harries, Kathryn Blakeman and Richard Blakeman. Thank you also to Simon Messenger and Garfield Lee who helped at pack up time."
The next Boroondara Farmers Market will be on Saturday September 17th. It is expected to be a big one, so bring plenty of bags!
The Britannia Morris entertain market goers at the Boroondara Farmers Market on September 2nd. What better way to welcome spring in the air than with a spring in your step!

Visit to Stavanger International Rotary Club (“SIRC”) and Øyane Rotary (“OR”), Norway in July 2023.
In July 2023, Kay and I had the opportunity to again visit Stavanger, Norway to see family. Although during July, our fellow Norwegian Rotarians were on well-deserved vacation enjoying the long days of summer in their cottages in the Fjords, we had the opportunity meet again with Mr Duncan Samuels, Club Secretary for 23/24 for SIRC (we participated in 2 Club SIRC meetings in November 2022) for a lunch and Mr Geir Owe, President of Øyane Rotary for 23/24, also for lunch.

Natalia Perehrestenko’s life changed forever on 16 March 2022. That’s when her home in the Ukrainian village of Moshchun was demolished by a Russian attack.
“The house was destroyed as a result of a projectile hitting the room where my daughter lived with her child,” she says. “Thank God, by the time the house caught fire, we had already been evacuated.”
Today, Perehrestenko and her family are back in Moshchun. They’re even living on their own land, in a modular house donated by Rotary members.
Rotary districts around the world have used disaster response grants totaling nearly US$1 million to donate 76 of the small structures, mostly for use in Moshchun. The effort supports jobs in Ukraine and is sustainable because the structures can be repurposed. But most important, the modular homes have made a swift and significant impact on people’s lives – and are creating a sense of hope.

The ultimate experience in Club camaraderie: getting together with fellow members at a District Conference.
In 2021, Glenferrie members had a great time at Conference in Albury. We had a large group who enjoyed the experience, and our PP Mark Ellis is keen to share Bendigo with our members and particularly our new members.
Camp Getaway is an ongoing project of the combined Rotary Clubs of District 9800. It caters for those of all abilities and mobility, provides a meeting place for support groups, and offers those who need it most a sanctuary away from their daily struggles. Whilst disability and related support groups have priority for booking dates, Camp Getaway welcomes bookings from family groups, church groups, clubs, special functions, business meetings, and recreational groups.
Join us to hear Rtn. Ken Maxfield of the Rotary Club of North Balwyn speak about his involvement with Camp Getaway, as Board member, marketing manager and bookings coordinator since 2000.
The Rotary Club of Glenferrie acknowledges the traditional owners as the custodians of this land, recognising their connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to Australia's First Peoples, and to their elders, past, present and future.
