Norman Gale and the men who attend the men's cooking class at Bowen St Camberwell, on a Wednesday from 11.00am - 1.00pm, are very grateful to the Rotary Club of Glenferrie for sponsoring and running the men's cooking class each week throughout the year. The classes are run in six-week blocks with a two-week break in between the blocks.
Most weeks we have four or five men from all walks of life who enjoy coming along and preparing and eating a healthy meal together.

Each week we have a member from our club decide on a menu, shop for the ingredients and guide the group through the preparation and cooking of the food. A second volunteer works as the "sous chef" and assists with the smooth running of the meal preparation. Most of the men who attend are quite chatty and very much enjoy all aspects of the program - the food preparation, cooking and most of all the eating of the meal together. The social aspect of the activity Is the most important part of the day, for these men who often don't have a lot of social interaction with others.
Our final six-week block for 2026 will begin on the 28 th of October and run through to the first week in December. We are always looking for volunteers from the club to work in this program, you don't need to be a chef, just a person happy to share a simple recipe and chat with the group while you cook and eat. Please let Wendy or a Community Services Committee member know if you are available to do a shift in November or early December.
