The Salvation Army has been active in Camberwell for more than 100 years. For many years they were located in Burke Road just up from Camberwell Junction. They then relocated to their current home in Bowen St, in the late 1970’s. The Rotary Glenferrie Club has had a strong association with the Salvation Army for many years. The Salvation Army could not exist nor perform the wonderful tasks that they do if it were not for the volunteers.
The Salvation Army has close to 100 volunteers involved with their community services. Food is donated from such groups as: Fair Share, IGA, Chicken Control and 2nd Bite, to name a few. And of course the very generous Baker’s Delight in Camberwell. The food is either collected or dropped off by those donating.
During these challenging times of self- isolation, meals are not served on the premises. The meal program has altered the position to a “take away” service or home delivery of hampers. Some of the food hampers are delivered to the homes of those who are self-isolating or simply unable to leave their homes. Unfortunately, some services have had to be curtailed due to the virus. These include, The Men’s cooking classes, exercise programs and the Migrant pronunciation classes.
Many thanks to all our volunteers who front up every Thursday for the Bread Run.
