Collectors of stamps and coins would attest to just how much you can learn about history and different places around the world through this pastime. Rotary pin collecting is similar. Members of the Rotary on Pins Fellowship are able to learn about the world of Rotary, its history, annual themes, events and the unique aspects of clubs, districts, zones and the Foundation through a common interest in sharing, collecting, highlighting and trading pins associated with Rotary.
Whilst discussions were held in early 2015 to form an interest group centred on Rotary pin collecting, it wasn’t until April 2016 that Rotary International gave the Fellowship formal approval. There were 35 members from 15 countries when the application was submitted to Rotary International for endorsement, which grew to 600 by August 2016. Today, the popularity of the Fellowship is reflected in its two thousand–plus Facebook followers.
Membership is open to a wide range of people involved in some way with Rotary, including obviously Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, RYLArians and inbound and outbound youth exchange students.
The Rotary on Pins Fellowship joins other fellowships that help act as a resource and information archive on the history, purpose and value of Rotary. As with all Rotary fellowships, the Rotary on Pins Fellowship provides members an opportunity to share an interest and build friendships with other Rotarians around the world.
It is of note that one of the Founders of the Rotary on Pins Fellowship is a Rotarian from District 9800.
