RI Regionalisation Pilot Project.

'PILOT' is a word I am familiar with and love dearly. I grew up and accomplished my career in Shenzhen, China, following the success of the Chinese Special Economic Zone PILOT Project. Interestingly, in my presidential year, the RI Regionalisation PILOT project is on its way. At its club meeting on Tuesday, 30 August, Rotary Glenferrie will have PDG Peter Frueh, the co-chair of the RI Zone Regionalisation PILOT Project, provide an informative presentation about the PILOT project. After Peter's presentation, we'll have the club's vote (yes or no) by our club members via a show of hands. Dear Glenferrie Rotarians, please come along, enjoy the informative night, and contribute your thoughts.

The club welcomed a special guest from Hong Kong, China, at the meeting last week, Brian Ho, Past President of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northeast and an Assistant Governor of Rotary District 3450. Brian, who is a solicitor, is the first overseas Rotarian visitor to the club since the beginning of the COVID19 pandemic. He brought us a banner of the Rotary Club of HK Northeast as a gift to the club. Unfortunately, our club doesn't swap banners anymore as it's considered "old-fashioned". So what would be the modern way to connect with our fellow Rotarians worldwide?

I jumped onto the website of Rotary District 3450 and the social media of Rotary HK Northeast. I was impressed by the cover page of their club – what a wonderful group of younger Rotarians. At the district level, Rotary District 3450 has started Virtual Rotary Youth Exchange for the youth to connect to the world, develop international understanding and widen vocational learning experiences. District 3450 has adopted new club models: apart from a satellite club, cause-based clubs have been piloted. To face a fast-changing world, the best we can do is to embrace the changes, stay in touch with what’s happening around the world, and continue developing new ways of delivering services that suit the ever-changing world. We, the Rotary Glenferrie and Rotary HK Northeast are so different in our ways of running an autonomous Rotary club. Yet, we share the same Rotary motto 'Service Above Self. For me, that's the beauty of Rotary.  My dear fellow Rotarians, let the Rotary spirit lives on everywhere in the world.
