Into the third month of my Presidency and I have yet to rub shoulders with any members. Getting used to wearing a mask and maybe it is an advantage since it is now suspected that doctors wear masks so that when anything goes wrong, they can’t be identified. Mental and physical health is a priority. One of my patients was told to play 18 holes a day, so he went out and bought a harmonica. So, it is in lockdown no socialising and no golf in particular!!
Thank you for ratifying the Strategic Action Plan at the last general meeting. Even though we are in DC (during COVID), we can begin to implement some goals. It seems like Rotary District is using the lockdown to ensure all their policies are in order. A good example is this Rotary Youth Declaration Form and, also watch your email for other policies that I have to prove that I have alerted you to.

I do apolo
gise for hitting you all with legal stuff. The pressure is from above and not from within the club. There is a board meeting coming up on Monday. There are several items to attend to. I will inform you of any changes in my following Musings next week. Our Rotary 100 year old joint project – playground setup is going well. We hope that it will generate many further projects with hand on opportunities.
The General meeting on Tuesday should be a real beauty with thanks to David Fallick and the Club service asking Dr Sarah Garner to speak. Her shortened CV is exhausting to read. So, to have someone of such calibre to address us is our honour and a privilege. Please attend and make sure you tune in to what should be a very formative talk around infectious diseases.
The informal “Wine and Cheese” night is marked for the following Tuesday 15th September. This is just an exc
use for informal fellowship, and I will start it off with a humorous video on COVID about 7.30 pm, with ability to join into the meeting early from about 7.15 pm. The aim is to continue the formula of random chat rooms conducted by our intrepid legal eagle Peter Moore. Planned finish at 8.30 pm. I encourage you all to have private chats at other times. I am conscious of isolation issues with some members.
Do look out for the “Morning tea with the DG” sessions that are a regular feature for our fellows. There was one last Saturday. Worth a look in to see what is going on. Also, there are Breakfast meetings planned by District Rotary, which are advertised in the Networker and I will update when I can.
Our DG Philip Archer is keen to address our club but initially wants to approach our Cluster Group first. So, on September 11th at 5.00 pm Friday, we will conducting a cluster zoom meeting. Since you all are not going anywhere, there is no excuse not to join in. Hope to see you on zoom. I presume the details will be out closer to the day. Mark down Sept 22nd at 0700, we must have a Special General Meeting to pass the new Constitution and Bylaws. The Board is happy with our changes, but the meeting has to have 21 days’ notice and Peter has emailed the proposed Constitution and By Laws recently.
Hopefully then, I have all the legal issues sorted out.
Well, have a good week indoors!! My cooking skills are slowly improving. I usually use the smoke detector as a timer.
