George Orwell once stated – In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
It is with great sadness we observe the bullying of one nation to another nation. Misinformation and inappropriate excuses abound. In the bible of karate “The Bubishi” my favourite quote is that “Delay is the best remedy for Anger” so I hope that the united world can come up with inducements to end this Ukrainian invasion. Rotarians have an avenue to be involved via the email I recently sent to all from Gabriel Hau, RI District 9800 Peace building Committee Chair.

Thanks to those Directors who were able to give a brief outline of their portfolios at last Tuesday’s meeting. Occasionally it is good to sit back and find out what is going on within our own club. As President I get to oversee all the activities. Hopefully, newcomers can get an idea of where they want to be involved. Being involved increases the satisfaction of being a RC Glenferrie member.

The Board meets tomorrow night so please let me know of any issues you want to bring up. The musings will be able to update you next week upon our momentous decisions.

Below are just some of the activities going on.
Terrace Party – We are on March 29th having our annual BBQ on the terrace. Outside so COVID friendly. Lynette Spencer is in organising mode and we will need to know numbers intending to come a couple of weeks prior.

Changeover Date – Our Changeover is June 14th. Please place this date in your diaries for the big social event on our calendar.

Mental Health Golf Day – On May 24th is the Kingston Heath Golf Day set up by our member Elisabeth Dumonic with proceedings going to Rotary Mental Health. The flyer is out, and the day is aimed at corporate as well as Rotarians, so please spruik the event. Yes, I hear the “expensive” word often repeated but there is a tax relief built in. Golf at a very popular club is never cheap. Elisabeth will need volunteers to man the various stations to make this a successful event, so please join her committee.
Afghan Music Event – We are still after members to take the challenge to run this event. These shows will be an opportunity to welcome the over 4000 people recently evacuated to Australia from Afghanistan, and to recognize the efforts of Australian Defense Force members and public servants who helped get them out. Most likely for Aug 26th to coincide with the anniversary of the Kabul evacuation.

District Conference – Albury 22 to 24th April.  Please consider coming especially the new members, since this is best way to gain insight into the immense exciting world of Rotary. On the Friday night we have booked a restaurant for the club in the main street, so please let us know who is coming so we can share the details.

Rotary leadership learning and development – Dates of the next Rotary Leadership Institute Part 1 and 2 on 20 March at 11.00 am & Part 3 on 27th march at 11.00 am and Part 4 on 3rd April. Please register with Jane.Pennington@rotary9800.org by 11thMarch. Details via the District 9800 Website (gaining access via Member’s resources on our Glenferrie Website.) This presents a wonderful opportunity for experienced Rotarians, new members and interested people.
