“They call it golf because all the other four letter words were taken.” Raymond Floyd.

With tomorrow being our big golf day, maybe the Musings should be devoted to the subject of golf! So, was Paul Harris a golfer? Not sure on that count but I am sure he would approve of the Fellowship that happens being out in the elements hitting a small ball along pristine fairways and straight into a small hole at the end. Sounds easy. I am told it is a good way to size up a person as to how honest he/she is in their game. Leather wedges are frowned upon.

So, tomorrow is our Lift the Lid golf day, which is our next major event for the club. It will be a great event for our club, which will have its meeting as a social event at the BBQ at Kingston Heath. Thanks for all those involved in organising, playing,  coming to the BBQ or just buying a raffle ticket. In all this fun, we mustn’t forget the great charity of Rotary Health is what we are supporting. Golf can be good or not so good for our mental health depending on how the ball rolls!!

“Golf has probably kept more people sane than psychiatrists have.” ‒ Harvey Penick
“I regard golf as an expensive way of playing marbles” ‒ G. K. Chesterton.
“The reason a pro tells you to keep your head down is so you can't see him laughing.” ‒ Phyllis Diller.
Ghee, I am nearly as good as Chis Raw’s lines at the end of this Bulletin!!
Please enjoy the day and spend up BIG!

New members – I was honoured to induct Wendy Cross last week with Thelma Hutchison as her mentor. Our second family Dr Weranja Ranasinghe and Mahroo Parsi will come into our fold in a fortnight’s time.

District Assembly – May 28th on Zoom 9.00 AM – 12.00 PM. This president is having the telecast at his residence. Suggested that this would be a good morale booster and a way of getting new members to be involved. There will be breakout groups and so if you book and bring your computer, we should be able to cater for a couple of breakout sessions within the house. I have a dog kennel as an extra space!!

District Changeover has been set for 25th June at 1200 am. It would be nice to have a team going to represent our club. Good introduction for newcomers to see the Rotary Machine in action. Bookings via Humanitix.
Changeover Date – Our Changeover is June 14th. Please place this date in your diaries for the big social event on our calendar. After the election weekend, I will be re emailing reminders targeting those who haven’t replied. I will try not to bother those who have already paid up and coming but apologies in advance if these unnecessary emails occur.

Camberwell Art Show – This year is to be held at the Advanced Technology Centre of Swinburne University. The RC of Camberwell is proposing a Super Cluster event on Monday June 27th from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Entry fee is $15, and wine and cheese are provided. It has been suggested that we could then meet at a local restaurant after. The Board thought that this should be supported instead of our last meeting for this Rotary Year on the 28th of June at Kooyong. More details later. If someone has a good idea on a nearby dinner place to congregate, I would appreciate to know.

Our 50th year celebrations.  In 2025, our club will be celebrating 50 years. We need to think about how we will approach the celebrations. Un officially, Chris Tran and I are starting to think about how we should tackle this year. Do we put on a gala night, or build a statue in some park?  We welcome ideas since 2025 will come up fast and we should be prepared.

Enjoy the week. Thanks to all who came last week and please keep coming to our General Meetings. Remember the 50% attendance implications to remain a Rotarian.
