Mrs Beryl Vesely, a darling friend of mine, gave me a special gift to commemorate my Rotary Presidency last week. It is a Rotary International 75th Anniversary Commemorative Plate 1905 –1980 which she bought in August 1979 through Rotary Croydon. The gift came to me with a letter from the Rotary Club of Croydon. It was titled to Mr B. J. Vesely rather than Mrs B. J. Vesely. Until 1989, a woman couldn't be a Rotarian then and wasn't entitled to be called Mrs even as the partner (wife) a of RotarianWhat a special gift to me. It has carried the glory of Rotary as a service organisation for 118 years. Moreover, it made me think, where is Rotary going in the new era?

RI Zone 8 Regionalisation Pilot
Over the last ten years, RI Zone 8 (including Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands) has lost 23% in Rotarian membership. Changing volunteer needs and ageing demographics demand new opportunities for innovation and collaboration in how we serve our communities, enjoy fellowship, engage participants, develop leadership and grow Rotary. The RI Zone 8 Regionalisation Pilot is a project supposed to provide better and more direct support to a Rotary club through a less layered approach (Possibly no District layer in the future?) Our Rotary club will have a district regionalisation team speaker come to talk about the project and ways to grow Rotary. clubs
MentorMatch Project
The club had Colleen d'Offay talk about the MentorMatch project at the meeting on Tuesday, July 12. It could be a potential vocational service project for Glenferrie Rotary. Rev up! Cheryl Pisterman, our freshly minted Vocational Service Director. There are 200,000 international students from 170 countries in Victoria, bringing$13.7 billion into our economy. As Rotarians and mentors, we will contribute to the wellbeing of mentees. Through the project, we'll also contribute to the economy and further raise the profile of Rotary.

Board Meeting July 5
The new Board met last Tuesday for the first time. The Board approved that the RCG contribute a further $5,000 to the Warsaw RC to support the Ukraine refugees in Poland. Additionally, it plans to have a combined Christmas Party with Rotary Hawthorn on Tuesday, December 13. The immediate past president Mark Ellis will chair a task force for this special event.
