The Benefits of Rotary Youth Exchange: As the host club in 2019-2020, RC Glenferrie sponsored an outbound Rotary Exchange, student Bianca Shepherd, from Siena College to study in Vienna, Austria for one year. Bianca enjoyed her time in Vienna and returned to Australian in early 2020. Now she is doing her dream course, Fashion Design bachelor's degree at RMIT.

In the same period, our Youth Service Committee developed a good relationship with an inbound Youth Exchange student Constanze Schuen from Austria, who stayed with Bianca’s family during her Youth Exchange year in Australia.
The two girls met up with each other both at Austria and Australia, and still are in touch regularly. Rotary connecting for good. Getting involved in Rotary through different projects offers a menu of ways to connect with the people, clubs, community, and the Rotary world, through education.

Welcome to the Rotary Global Grants Scholar Hikaru Sato: Three years on, RC Glenferrie looks forward to welcoming a Rotary Global Grants Scholar; Hikaro Sato, who will study a master's degree of Public Health at Australian Catholic University early next year. Hikaro’s study in the field relates to one of the Foundation’s Areas of Focus: disease prevention and treatment, which limits the spread of communicable diseases, and reduces the incidence and effect of diseases and strengthens the health care system. I believe that Rotary Global Grant Scholarships have a great impact on promoting positive outcomes in many disciplines.

Glenferrie’s Global Grant International Committee consisting of Teresa Liu, Charles Tran and Amelia Anderson will support Hikaro during her stay in Australia. We will work with Hikaro’s host club, RC Mito Japan to make it a successful Scholarship project. I am sure that our Glenferrie Rotarians will welcome Hikaro Sato when she visits and share her culture and experiences with us.

RORP Shipping Container Loading: Club members are invited to volunteer to assist with the loading of dismantled playgrounds as part of the RORP (Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds) project. The loading will be led by Bob Allardice from Nunawading rotary club but will be attended by members from a number of clubs. Two volunteers (or more) would be welcome from Glenferrie.

The activity involves carefully loading pieces (most are not heavy and there are also light duties required) of playgrounds into a shipping container and is expected to take from 8 am to 2 pm. It is not essential for volunteers to attend the full day. It could be half day or whatever time is available. The loading will take place at 6 Cloverlea Drive, Kilsyth South on Thursday 24th November. If you are able to help, please advise Mark Howlett on 0418391401 for coordination.

Vale Llewellyn (Llew) Jones
I was sad to hear that Charter member, PP Llew Jones, had passed away. Although I did not know him, many members will remember him with fondness.  You can find a short tribute to Llew in this edition of The Glenferrie Rotarian.

Christmas Party on Tuesday 13 Dec: RC Glenferrie and Hawthorn will celebrate Christmas 2022 on Tuesday 13 December 2022 at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club. Come along for lots of seasonal cheer, entertainment and fun.
