Better Together Rotary and Rotaract: As the club president, I am always pleased to share the Rotary motto with my fellow Rotarians in my opening remarks at each club meeting. 'Service above self, we say it, and we practice it. The Rotary motto best conveys the philosophy of unselfish volunteer service. Rotarians believe the more we nurture the spiritual growth of others, the more our spiritual growth is nurtured.
But if I ask the question, what does Rotaract, the other member of our Rotary family’s motto represent? Could any member give me the correct answer? Rotaract stands for “Rotary in Action”, and its motto is ‘Self Development – Fellowship through Service’. At the ‘Better Together’ Zone 8 conference in Canberra, Rotary and Rotaract for the first time joined up to showcase all the best our members in the Rotary family can offer: ideas, projects, skills and experience. Honestly, I’ve never seen so many young people in my Rotary life, and I enjoyed the vibe full of youthful energy, enthusiasm and diversity. Many of our members might remember that RC Glenferrie chartered a Rotaract Club based in Swinburne University years ago. We are open to any opportunity to work with Rotaract in the future.District 9800 Membership Forum: Zone 8 Membership Officer Barbare Mifsud, with DG Amanda and District Membership Director Johnathan Shepherd, will be conducting an online forum to discuss Membership and Satellite Clubs on Thursday, 16 November, from 6:00–7.00pm. The forum will discuss the key elements of membership growth and retention, the exciting new concept of Satellite Clubs, and how they can refresh and invigorate clubs in our District. AGM: The Glenferrie will have its AGM on Tuesday, 15 November. All members have received the notice of the AGM with all documents. Dear Glenferrie Rotarians, please come along. You will have a chance to voice your opinions on the future of your club. Together, we are working to achieve our club goals.
