Welcome back Rotarians and friends to our Rotary year ahead. So far this year we have had two successful Farmers Markets and our annual BBQ at the playground on the Yarra, Creswick Street Hawthorn. The BBQ was a great success. The weather was good and Rotarians and friends all had a great time, demonstrated by the fact that we only packed up when it was getting dark.
We were delighted to have our Rotary Foundation Scholarship recipient, Masaya Endo, also present. He was so popular that many of us plied him with food and drink and in his inimitable style, Masaya thoroughly enjoyed himself. Having been in Australia for six months, Masaya is becoming accustomed to our Australian ways, even understanding some of our slang.
Also at our BBQ were Rod Patel and his wife, Veronica. Rod will be inducted into our club next Tuesday the 10th of February. Rod was introduced to our club by Geoff Widmer and Geoff will be Rod’s mentor.
Next Tuesday evening, our District Governor, Peter Shepheard, will address our club and he will meet with members of the Board at 6.00pm before the meeting.
There is still time to book for the Multi-District-Impact- Summit in Horsham from Friday the 27th of March until Sunday the 29th of March 2026. For more information you can check the website: https://www.rotaryimpactsummit.org
Our club has been saddened to hear of the death of one of our members, Jerzy Ordega, during the Christmas holidays. Jerzy was severely incapacitated last year following a bad car accident and felt unable to attend Rotary meetings because he was not well enough. At the time, Jerzy said he didn’t want any fuss to be made of him. It seems that some months passed and later in the holidays he died of a heart attack. Jerzy will be remembered as a warm and friendly man, eager to contribute to our Rotary projects when he could. Jerzy’s son, Adrian, will be coming to Australia and may contact Robert Winspear, who introduced Jerzy to our Rotary club. The club will be notified of any further information.
Warm regards,
Helena
