Last Tuesday evening, our members and guests were treated to an excellent presentation by Amanda McKenzie, CEO of Climate Council Australia. Amanda gave an excellent outline of all the climate issues we face and a range of solutions. As the climate crisis affects all of us, there were many questions. This week we look forward to hearing from Masaya Endo, our Rotary Global Scholar from Japan, whom our club is hosting for the two years while he is in Melbourne studying for his PhD in linguistics at Melbourne University.
An important project, which is being organized by Joanne Shentu, is the Rotary Walk With Us fundraiser for the End Polio Program. From October 1st through to the 31st of October members and friends of the Rotary club of Glenferrie can join the team, known as the Glenferrie Gallopers. Funds will be raised by walkers obtaining sponsors for their progress. There will be a combined walk on Saturday the 11th of October commencing at 10.30am. at Fairview Park.
To register go to the link http://www.rotarywalkwithus.org as an individual and then join our Glenferrie Gallopers. Record progress in kilometres and link your account to Strava. For more information you can contact Joanne Shentu.
Another program which Joanne is leading is the Installation of a Peace Pole at Loreto Mandeville Hall girl’s College. The date for this Ceremony is Tuesday the 11th of November. There will be more information about this to come.
One of the important community programs that our club provides for the Salvation Army is the Bread Run. Simon Messenger is doing a very good job managing this program, but he is doing far too much on his own. Please could members give Simon more support and volunteer for the bread run which occurs on Thursday evenings. Register to volunteer here.
Another reminder for your calendars is that our Christmas Party this year is on the 16th of December.
