On Tuesday the 10th of March the “weather gods “were kind to us, providing a warm and balmy evening for our club members, together with some partners and guests, to enjoy our annual BBQ on the Terrace at Kooyong. It was also a special surprise to have our Past President, Peter Moore, join us for the evening looking and, as he said, “feeling better” following his long illness.  He said he was pleased he had recovered enough to attend his daughter’s wedding a little time previously.

On the following Thursday, the 12th of March, four members from our club, Christine McCann, Amelia Anderson, Cheryl Pisterman and I attended the Cluster Quiz Night at Green Acres Golf Club, East Kew, which was organized by Greg Ross OAM, President of the Rotary club of Norh Balwyn. The idea behind this event was for members of the Cluster of seven Rotary clubs in Boroondara to get together and have some fun.

The Cluster clubs include the Rotary clubs of Hawthorn, Kew, Balwyn, North Balwyn, Camberwell, Canterbury and our club, Glenferrie. Greg Ross was the presenter and organizer of the evening and he had obviously put a lot of work into it. There were many questions on the topic of Rotary and also many  on general knowledge. Without blowing our trumpet too loudly we didn’t do too badly with the questions! The main outcome was that it was a fun night and people mixed with Rotarians from other clubs.

Our next major event is the Rotary Conference (The Multi -District Impact Summit) in Horsham from the 27t to the 29th of March.  Three Rotary Districts will be participating in the Conference, Districts 9510, 9780 and our District, 9800.

Two of our club’s members, Thelma Hutchison and Dr. Mark Ellis, OAM will be riding their bikes to the Conference, as they have done for many years, to raise money for the Rotary program, RoCan, which supports Ovarian Cancer Research.

I’m pleased to announce that our Rotary Foundation Scholar, Masaya Endo, whom our club is hosting for 2 years, will be speaking at the Conference.

An important date for you to put in your calendars now is Tuesday June the 23rd this year, which is our CHANGEOVER evening. On this evening Rotarians, guests and dignitaries come together to celebrate the changeover from one Rotary President and their Board to another President and a new Board which will take over for the year 2026 -2027. It is always a great night.

Warm regards,

Helena
