At our last dinner meeting, Rotary members and guests were given a very interesting and at times amusing presentation by two year 12 students who were sponsored by our club to attend the NYSF (National Youth Science Forum) at Queensland University. Both girls spoke about the amazing new endeavours in science which they had learned and which inspired them for their future careers.
On Sunday the 1st of March members of our club and other helpers put on gloves and with long tongs, set about cleaning up rubbish in our Farmers Market area, the adjoining carpark and streets nearby. Many volunteers took part in this project, Clean Up Australia Day, and it was a great success. I became so engrossed in picking up the extraordinary number of cigarette butts in the street that I lost track of time. I had to be called to have lunch. Rod Patel said he was worried about me and had been trying to find the lost “President”. Many thanks to Paul Shekleton for his excellent organization of the event and thank you very much to Alex Marshall and Libby for kindly providing a delicious lunch and refreshments.
Next Tuesday the 10th of March members of our club and guests will enjoy our annual BBQ on the Terrace, which is always an enjoyable occasion.
On the 12th of March a few members from our club will take part in the Cluster Quiz Night, organized by Greg Ross OAM, President of the Rotary Club of North Balwyn. The idea for this event is that Rotarians from different clubs in our Rotary cluster of seven clubs can come together for a night of fun and friendship.
Later on in March, on the weekend of the 27th – 29th of March is the Multi District Impact Summit (formerly known as the Conference) to be held in Horsham. To register, click here
