At our last club dinner meeting District 9800 Governor, Peter Shepheard, addressed the meeting, prior to which he met with members of the club board. Peter asked each board member about their role on the board and was interested to hear about our club’s projects. Peter was also interested to learn how the executive members of the board were managing. We had a beneficial discussion with Peter as he has considerable knowledge about Rotary and was able to offer helpful comments to all members of the board.

We were also delighted to induct our new member, Rod Patel, who will be mentored by Geoff Widmer, who introduced him to Rotary.

Jerzy Ordega, right, on a club project with PP Mark Howlett. Jerzy was well liked by members, and will be sadly missed. Rest in Peace good friend.

On Tuesday the 17th of February nine Rotarians from our club and Robert Winspear’s wife, Ros, attended the funeral and celebration of the life of our recently deceased past member, Jerzy Ordega. Jerzy’s son, Adrian, spoke beautifully about his father and his life, about

Jerzy Ordega

which not many of us were aware. He described Jerzy as having a considerable intellect, with a great interest in history, he was an avid reader with an adventurous spirit and that he was an inveterate traveler throughout the world.  He said Jerzy was strong, resilient and with a steadfast devotion to his family. We felt privileged to learn so much more about our Rotary member, Jerzy.

On another matter, I am pleased to announce that our Rotary member, Rod Smith, has recently become engaged to his partner, Joy. The wedding will be some time in September this year.
