Foreign Notes and Coins Repatriation Program
RC Glenferrie has participated in this program for many years under the leadership of John Hudson. During this time Club members have donated unwanted foreign currency notes or coins left over following overseas holidays.
The RC of Hornsby in NSW are the lead Club managing this project which has been operating for 24 years. Unwanted foreign notes and coins collected by all participating Clubs are passed onto RC Hornsby through RC of Keilor East D9800, who repatriate them and make donations to a range of international projects including, Shelter Box for Ukraine, Rotarians Against Malaria, ROMAC, Disaster Aid Australia program or a RAWCS project.
The coins and notes are sorted and returned to their country of origin, and then converted into Australian dollars. Through this process over $560,000 has been raised through the FCRP over the last 24 years. Participating Rotary Clubs can nominate the project they wish to support. In 2023/24 our Club supported Disaster Aid Australia with a donation of $270 from the foreign currency we collected. In this year, we will continue with our support for Disaster Aid Australia with your contributions
Geoff Widmer and Thelma Hutchison have volunteered to continue this collection, and we sincerely thank John Hudson for his many years of commitment to the Program.
Foreign currency notes and coins can be given to Geoff and Thelma at any of the dinner meetings.
To start the process, we ask you to bring your left-over foreign exchange (notes and coins), to the next Club Meeting on Tuesday 27th August, and Geoff Widmer will have a bucket to collect your contribution.
